  1. I had connected it to my new Vaio laptop via 4pin - 4pin firewire and it didn't work. I realised the 4pin was input only and then got a 6-pin to 4pin firewire cable(which they didnt include) and connected it but it does nothing. No new hardware found notices. They have no Vista drivers on their site and I know it should work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

IEEE-1394 is a bidirectional port for 4 or 6 pin.

DV format over IEEE-1394 is natively supported by XP or Vista. There is no special driver required. Does the IEEE-1394 port show up in Device Manager?

  3. In Device Manager it says "IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers" and when you expand it you get "Texas Instruments OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller" and nothing else.

It looks like the port is installed then. Call Pyro support.

I e-mailed them and they said use the USB PORT. As you might know, it doesn't have one.

nice. typical - minimum wage support person. don't even know their own products.

did you try turning on the pyro, set it to export something in dv, use the 6pin out, and then plug the other end into the computer?

Well I hook it up to the Satellite receiver box via s-video in and RCA audio in, use 6pin - 4pin into the laptop and nothing.
Another thing is that the plug they sent was for Europe, and we use the UK plugs. I had been using a plug from my previous ADS Tech device which is less voltage but had been giving a power light on the Pyro. Would this be making a difference?

I have e-mailed them today asking for the proper plug which sould have been sent with it. Oh and by the way, it took a month to arrive in the first place.

Does it work in the other direction? Load a DV format file into WinDV and play the file to a monitor. Test each mode one by one. Try it on a different computer to separate computer - Pyro issues.

I don't have an ADC Pyro. There may be some settings issues.

hhhgamewmx7, Nothing to do with your problem, but for general information, a six pin 1394 cable can carry power for 1394 devices, while the 4 pin is just data. The extra two pins are for power.

  10. If it helps (perhaps it doesn't), I have used the ADS Pyro FireWire card without any problems on a Vista-based laptop (a Dell).

  11. Thanks for the tips guys. I tried WinDV, and it says device not found. My Dad has a Macbook that I will try it on later and report back.

  12. Ok, its working now. Turns out the plug was the problem, not enought voltage. I found a 5v to try it and it worked. Thanks again for all your help.

I have the same problem. How did you connect the 5v? Is the 5v in your laptop?
