  1. All my Minolta Z1 cameras movies are recorded in .MOV format. Unfortunately, products like pinn. studio, and other dvd authoring don't support this.

I want to make sure I don't loose any quality when I convert the .mov files. Which settings should I use when using either EO or Rad Tools ?
(or any other suggestions). I assume I should convert them to .avi ?

also, does anyone know much about "mov" formats? My camera records @ 640x480 , and 15 or 29fps(selectable). That is all I know.

    thanks, zepolli

thats not much help -- MOV means its a Quicktime container and it could be any one of a 100 or so different codecs ....

all the apps support quicktime but you need the right quicktime codec installed .... check the website or manual to see what type qt it is ..

or even install quicktime (if you havnt ) and install everything in the installation (specifically the authoring bits) -- it is free and is on the www.apple.com site

  3. I do have quicktime installed, and can play back the files fine. But programs like studio will not let you import them as far as I know.

I did a search and it is stated that .mov is not supported by pinnacle studio. I am using 9.35. I don't see how a codec will help with this problem.

For compatibility sake, the question is more , how do I convert to perhaps avi without loosing any quality? I would rather have them in a different format than .mov anyway.

    thanks for the reply though..

pinnacle studio supports quicktime -- but you have to encocde it to mpeg2 for dvd (is this what you mean?) ..

just go ahead and encode it using a dvd template ... you can use tmpgenc or many other encoders for this --

see guides on the left for quicktime to mpeg2 conversion

  5. Ok. It looks like TMpgenc will do it or Tmpgenc Express.

    How about this one?

    http://www.eo-video.com/

I tried it this morning and seemed to work well. Anyone else using EO Video for conversion from .mov or anything else.

    Thanks for all the suggestions.

    Hello again,

I tried it this morning and seemed to work well
    Good!

However I tried EO-Video on a MOV that used a DVD-like menu structure at the start of the movie (directors comments, play, directors cut etc) and it totally screwed the Audio sync - as did everything else APART from TMegEnc Xpress!

This is why I chose to say use TmpegEnc - as a sweeping statement (EO-Video did work for me on non-menued MOVs..)

Anyway, whatever floats your boat, so to speak!

    Cheers,

    Andy
    Work you bloody thing....
