I finally broke down and got this card off eBay after reading about it for the last few years. If I'm capturing from a Sony DCR-TRV50 DV camcorder it looks like I can use it's DV out connection and with the right cable can go into the ADVC card via Firewire or DV. Is there a difference in speed and/or quality?

Whether you use the ADVC's FireWire inputs or ones on the motherboard the transfer speed from a DV camera would be the same. The camera sets the transfer speed. The quality would also be the same. You are just moving a data file from the tape to your PC. A 30 minute tape will take 30 minutes to transfer.
