  1. I try both version and my results were still the same....

I use DVDshrink to downsize a 4gig film into 2gig..without any menus..I make some simple menus in DVDlab and import the .vob file(s) into the asset...Do all the links and stuff and then compile the movie...

The result is not working correctly...the files that DVD-lab created is then played on my computer using PowerDVD but whenever I try to jump to a different part of the film, it doesn't. The movie just start back at the beginning again...The same goes for the scene select i've create....I also notice that the .vob files size are different...instead two 1gig files and one 150mb files like the original .vob...I end up with two 996mb and one 200mb files....I'm not sure what I didn't wrong but this happen with either option of JOIN or DEMUX...I also notice that the TIME on the preview window is not accurate....It starts with 1:00:00 instead of 00:00:00 and I don't know if this is normal or not....Also, when I move the slider right, the time jumps. For example, right after 2 hr 7min, the time jumps to 3hr.

I tried to burn the files with NERO and test them on a DVDplayer but nero give me error. "File Allocation" problem....

I don't why this is happening. Could it be because I've SHRINK the files. I could just burn them with LAB and it would work but I want to put menus in them and also a good practice for me using dvd-lab. I try the PRO version but the same seems to happen. Does anyone out there have any idea why this is so? OR maybe how to fix this "ALLOCATION" problem as I think it maybe be the main cause....

    thanks fur any tips...

  2. Hi. I have used your method a couple of times, that's why I 'm writing.
I think most of what you are mentioning is normal.

    1. jump to a different part : Do you mean chapter?
I assume a) you had asked dvd-labPro to demux and merge your vobs while inserting them, so that they would compose a single movie, b) extracted chapter list from original movie and c) loaded the list in dvdlab before doing the compilation. Haven't you?
Otherwise, each vob you insert is considered a separate movie, you need to draw the links to make movies play back one after the other, but I do not think you can go from a scene of 1st movie to another in the 2nd, unless you go to the menu first.

    2. size of vobs : nothing to worry; dvd-lab always creates its own vobs to make the final movie.

    3. time-code in preview. It really starts from 1:00:00; I do not know why. What more I have noticed is that, having inserted vts_01_01.vob, vts_01_02.vob, vts_01_03.vob (assuming they last 25 min each), all the three are considered a single file and when previewing e.g. the 2nd vob, the timer has added 25 min (duration of 1st vob).

    4. Nero's error ... I would suggest ignore and finish with burning. Do you choose dvd-video or iso/udf?

Additional notes. I have used your method as I said above and I can't help mentioning some "side effects" happened to me. The problem I have experienced of course is different. I had left out menu as well as some seconds at the beginning of the movie with dvdshrink; the dvd created was ok, but something was wrong with 1st vob's ac3 sound as I found out later. The final dvd (after adding menu with dvd-lab and compiling) had no audio. I tried to import the sound to dvd-lab separately. A lot of programs were able to demux vob, but the only program that managed to give me an ac3 compatible was unexpectedly dvd2avi.
    Happy year

  3. Another method:
Rip/Demux the vobs to mpeg, or m2v and mpa.
Transcode audio to AC3 with ffmpeggui if you haven't already got AC3.
Import the parts you want into dvdlab.
    Author, burn.
I usually just import the vobs, reset chapters, then author and burn.
Nero's error has nothing to do with mode. It's telling you the dvd has an invalid structure. In other words the links do not work, go nowhere, or loop to themselves...Firstplay or first VTS have an invalid structure...

I would suggest you are not using the latest version of DVD Lab Pro. There was an issue with VOBs being create to 1 GB (base 10) instead of 1 GB (Base 2). This threw out the file sizes, and made them unplayable in some players. This has been fixed in a later version.

I have only seen the time jump behaviour on DVDs that had been created from VCDs and improperly joined during creation.

  5. Thanks for the advice...I'll try to make it more clear for you guys...

First of all, I did start with individual files but somehow did do that because of some problem*(I can't remember)..

What I did was use VOBmerge to join the VOB and import it into DVDlabPro without Demux or anything...just insert the file straight-up...As for the version, I got the newest one.

I've even COMPILE a dummy one just to test the MENU and everything seems to work correctly...

REBOOT...you speak of resetting the chapter, is this require??... I mean I just import the MERGED VOB file into the project and then 'auto-chapter' it.... could this be the problems??

Thanks for all the replies...I will test it with another film and see if it's just the film that's causing this problems...

  6. You might try this method to import your DVD-lab menus into your DVD Shrink compilations.

  7. No, it's not necessary to reset your chapters.
I do a lot of multiple movie dvdr's, and thus manually setting chapter points (one for each movie) is necessary.
Try my other method. Demux the vobs to the actual mpegs, then reauthor.
