I'm not sure if this is the right forum. But I just picked up the I/O Magic 16x Dual Layer burner at Staples. It's a BenQ.

I want to burn DVD at 1x but Nero wont let me select anything lower than 2.4x

Is there any way around this without hooking up my old 1x burner?

    Nope

Dvd +r will not do 1x.

Why do you want to burn at 1x?

    Actually, I'm burning DVD-R.

I wont get my next shipment of TYs until next week. I'm using Lead Data discs- which work fine on my HS2 set top. I also have a 40 pack of Teon DVD-R I got at Staples Black Friday sale for $3.

I wouldn't have bothered with the Teon discs if I'd known they were CMC. The Teons will be good for experiments. But I really don't feel comfortable burning generic media like Lead Data at 4x. That's the only option I get for those discs.

I also like to burn my PS2 games at 1x Besides, I've been burning DVDs at 1x for 3 years with the exception of a 4x "upgrade" that lasted about 4 months. I don't burn that many discs, so speed isn't a huge issue. I just upgraded because the burner was a great deal

Oh well, I guess I'll just have to make sure to stay stocked up on Tys and use my old burner for my PS2 games

    Are these double layer blanks?

If not, then you have +r not -r.

    Just burn at 2.4x

It will not kill the disc.

I haven't bought any dual layer blanks yet- they are still way too expensive. They just aren't worth it.

The discs I have are DVD-R. The CMC discs give me an option to burn as low as 2.4x but the Lead Data wont go any lower than 4x

I've burned a couple (Lead Data) at 4x and they seem to be fine, but I haven't done a read test on them.

I have yet to see a -r write at 2.4x.

It starts at 1x, then goes 2x, 2x, 4x, and so on.

The only one that will do 2.4x is +r.

I also use Nero 6.6 reloaded.
