  1. Hi,
I have read former discussions about removing (converting) VOB files to MPEG2 files using e.g. TMPGEnc DVD Author or DVDDecrypter.....

But what is the simplest way to get source mpeg2 files ?

For example I burned 3 movies on DVD and now I need one one of these movies have back in mpeg2 file (same that I use during authoring)

    Solution ?

    Thanx very much for advices

  2. hm...but ReJig divides file into video and audio stream...what about problems with synchronizations or with importing into Vegas (with audio) or Procoder/TMPGEnc ... ? Are there ?

  3. So I tried ReJig yesterday and I must admit itīs very userfriendly and simple, but now I have video stream (m2v) and audio stream (ac3)...

But I canīt import these streams into Vegas, Tmpgenc nor Procoder...
And I want to use these programs for video editing and compressing
    Any solution ?

    Thanx

m2v and ac3 are the most common parts of a DVD video. Depending on what your other tools support, the AC3 might have to be decoded to wav.
TMPGEnc doesn't read m2v on its own, but if you have PowerDVD installed, TMPGEnc can utilize its mpeg2 codec to do so.
If you want to mux the m2v and AC3 into an mpg, use TMPGEncs multiplexer (File -> MPEG Tools). Play the resulting mpg to check for sync issues.

    Is my guide hidden?
    https://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?guideid=638&howtoselect=3;6#638
I have it under most guide sections...

Many advanced editing tools can't import mpg. You can frameserve the video from dvd2avi to a project file and to avi using vfapi reader(no converting) and you can import the video in most tools. Or use MPEG Video Wizard or for basic video editing(cutting, joining) use videoredo, cuttermaran, mpeg-vcr.

  6. Of course I read your guide ))

But only thing I need, is a simple freeware tool, which will rip movie to mpeg or join m2v+ac3 into mpeg without any problems with synchronization.......

TMPGEnc does that using the MPEG Tools without any additional software. So does mplex. Sync issues or not depends on the state of the origial source.

  8. Thanx Mats I will try to mplex m2v+ac3 with TMPGEnc after finishing my work for today...I hope everything will be ok...Peter

Good! Does it play in sync?
As said before, many encoders (and editing tools) doesn't take mpeg2 as input.
What is you goal with this rip?

    /Mats

  11. Yes it plays without any sync problems....there is no problem...

You say ,,many encoders (and editing tools) doesn't take mpeg2 as inputīī but I know that Vegas, Procoder, Tmpgenc does .... but not with this concrete mpeg file created with ReJig and mplexed by TmpgEnc ....

My goal with this ripped file is some editing in Vegas and recompressing also in Vegas or Procoder or Tmpgenc or Pinnacle or in whatever ....

this concrete mpeg file created with ReJig
ReJig hasn't created anything - it just extracts what's inside the source VOBs.

My guess is that it's the AC3 that's incompatible. And I know for sure that TMPGEnc doesn't open mpeg2 without assistance of some 3rd party mpeg2 decoder like the one PowerDVD installs in your system, and has a hard time dealing with AC3 audio.
Still, editing and compressing can't be your goal (At least I never edit for the sake of editing ) - Do you want to create a new DVD, or AVI, or VCD or what?
Be aware of that mpeg is not a format intended for editing - you mostly do all your edits in another video format, then, when all edits are done, you encode to mpeg as a last and final step.

  13. Yes Mat, thanx for help, Iīm not newbie in basic video issues...so I know things about encoding and editing...I also expressed myself badly, when I told ,,Rejig has createdīī...Rejig only removed from VOBs concrete chapter(s)....I know .....

Yes, you are right that problem is mainly in audio stream, Vegas can import m2v video but not ac3 audio, so I thought that after mplexing ac3 format would be transcoded into mpeg, which Vegas imports ....

what do you mean hard dealing with ac3 ? Tmpgenc freezes everytime I want to import audio stream...Iīm not sure if it really freezes, I waited only for some minutes .......

Do you have AC3Filter installed? That might help TMPGEnc - not sure on this tho. Mostly, when the source video comes with AC3 audio, you have to decode the AC3 to wav, then use this wav as audio source for TMPGEnc.

cuttermaran accepts m2v and ac3 (if they have the same name it will even load the ac3 by default). It's a linear (i.e. cutting) editing mpeg-2 application (free), but of course you can choose not to trim anything and leave the file as is. You have the option to mux the streams when you're done. Although I've never tried this stream muxing, it should be able to do what you're trying to. I'd give it a shot.
Sorry, I had to go see about a girl

  16. Everyone seems to have wandered off from the original question, which was:

"I have read former discussions about removing (converting) VOB files to MPEG2 files using e.g. TMPGEnc DVD Author or DVDDecrypter.....

But what is the simplest way to get source mpeg2 files ?"

As I said earlier, the answer is:

"Take a look here http://www.drdsystems.com/VideoReDo/ExtractStreamsFromDVD.htm for some help ... "[/url]

  18. Thanx Chris ))) But you really have found in your links answer on my question ? I mean, how to import a part of VOBs into Vegas, Procoder or Tmpgenc or how to mplex mv2 stream with ac3 into mpeg file which is readable in video applications as normal native mpegs ? I think you have not .....

To Matts: Yeas, I have this ac3 filter installed on my system.

Cuttermaran is free as long as you have purchased TMPGENC, or until your trial runs out, because it uses TMPGENC to create the new mpeg file. A couple free alternatives are Mpeg2Schnitt and gopdit for linux.

thanks for the correction Garibaldi. I never knew this as I have tmpgenc installed so I always assumed it was free on its own.

No problem, I learned the hard way when my TMPGENC trial ran out!! Gopdit (for linux) is nice because you don't have to demux the mpeg first to edit it.
