The only other thing I do while burning is listen to music with WMP and browse the net.

Ever since BURP and burn-proof, it's near impossible to ruin a burn from overusing the HD or CPU. That wasn't true in the days of "if the buffer empties mid-burn, you're screwed", but all new burners have buffer underrun protection, and many have burn-proof which throttles back the burn speed to match the buffer replacement rate

  5. I multi-task while burning all the time - running anything from Photoshop to Vegas, however I always burn off another drive (NOT my system drive).

I use Nero when I'm burning thousands of small files, but if it's just a couple hundred or less I use DiscJuggler.

I'm afraid I've been ruined by the early days of CD burning on older systems where even if you moved the mouse the burn would crash and you'd have another coaster and if windows did a bit of minor auto-housekeeping the burn would fail.
I'm scarred for life so even on a 3ghz pentium I make sure that there is nothing else happening during a burn.

  7. I think todays burners have gotten much more reliable when it comes to multitasking as Cap mentioned with Burnproof capabilities

  8. I never have anything else open when burning. Hundreds of burns I've never had a coaster.

  9. I have played UT2004 when burning a DVD before. It was accidental (forgot) but it worked just fine.

I multitask all the time. I listen to music, surf the net, and play games while burning.

    Hello,

I run an amd850mhz so I don't dare multitask even though my 4x microadvantage has a buffer (2mb I think ). I just feel safer letting it burn by itself....

I like to sit and watch the lights flash on the HD and the burner. I have no problem waiting 15 minutes until a DVD burn is done. Of course I have my laptop to surf with when my main box is burning or encoding. Gotta have internet access.

I'm usually on the computer for a short time, so if I need to burn a disc, I'll do other things.

While I wait, I surf the 'net, listen to music, and sometimes encode.

Nothing to heavy, and I usually make sure the apps I want to use are open before the burn starts.

  21. I have 3 computers - so I see no reason to multitask on the one that's burning 8)

I also check that certain crap isn't running in the background and have screensavers disabled.
I don't use an Internet connection at all on that computer, so I also don't have any virus protection or firewalls running.

    very good

I don't do anything heavy - maybe do some printing or web surfing but no movies or music and certainly no gaming.

I don't have any problems doing something else on either of my workstations while discs are burning, even to multiple burners :P

In fact I think I've realized why I got the latest computer: so I can play BF1942 while waiting for an encode/burn to finish

    Hello,

Well glad you didn't announce an early result like the networks do!

Actually I'm sure it was people who didn't write a response
