I am just about the most paranoid and obsessive person when it comes to multi-tasking while burning. I close all background programs such as virus scanners, firewalls, and mouse software. I also don't use a screensaver and I disable my internet connection. I even step away from my computer while burning. Yep, I'm nuts.

Is that machine a dual Xeon with 1 gigabyte of ram ?

If not, I will report you to the Computer Protection Facility nearest to your home for improper and abusive use of a computer.

I also check that certain crap isn't running in the background and have screensavers disabled.
I don't use an Internet connection at all on that computer, so I also don't have any virus protection or firewalls running.

Hmm, mental note: get Cobra addicted to Prestonias...

Hey Cobra, you can OC a 2.4 Prestonia to 3.2 GHz and 1066 FSB pretty easily. The best part of it is: there's two of them

I have 3 hooked to this KVM switch alone so I know the feeling

To anybody worried about it or unsure, I suggest firing off a burn with a rewritable disc and have at it. Multitask everything imaginable and discover your machine's breaking point.

It does not do any harm to multitask while burning.

It's because they're scared we'll badmouth them. I pretty much do all the same things whether I'm burning or not. I may disable some services before I start to be on the safe side and I avoid the obvious things like virus scans and defragging. Everything else is fair game. :P

When I first got this computer I had some problems where dvds wouldn't burn all the way, they would get errors and stop at the same point... I have alot of coasters... I had a data dvd do that a little while ago too.

  17. I avoid using disk intensive programs like DVD authoring and imgtools while burning. Anything else is ok, even CCE. I burn with DVD Decrypter.
