Ok, I got a new Toshiba DVD-ROM that burns dvd-r's. I installed it worked fine. Than i realized that once i put in my dvd-rom my cd-rom doesnt work. I can dissconect the IDE cable on the dvd and leave it on the cd that way the CDrom works. Weird. I know its not the power supply not big enough becasue i have both connected, and they both open.

On rare occasion when i get both showing in "My Computer" when u put a CD in the CDROm it freezes up. Even Weirder. But if Dissconect The DVDrom, the CDrom works. Now what the heck is going on??

    Thanks in Advance!

You should look at the jumper settings on both drives.

They may both be set to master or slave.

One needs to be on master and the other on slave.

You should also put both burners on different ide channels.

You can leave both optical drives on the IDE channel, one must be set as master and one as slave though. As you made no indication that the cd-rom is a burner, I would make the cd-rom the slave and dvd burner the master.

The floppy controller is separate from the IDE controllers... you shouldn't lose your floppy because you have 4 IDE devices.

On any computer, you are limited to 4 IDE devices. That is not Dell Specific.

The only way to have more IDE devices is to have another IDE controller card.
