Hey all. I am tired of burning movies to DVDs to play in my DVP642 only to find that they will not play once in there. I tried downloading Gspot and it does not report if a Xvid version for a file (at least I cannot find it). It only seems to report if it is an Xvid, Divx5, etc. As most people know (who own the DVP642 anyway) that right now the player will not play anything encoded as an Xvid version 1.0 or greater. Any other tool out there that will do this?

Hi,
One way to burn movies so they work in a dvd player is to burn them with nero with vcd, if your dvd player is able to see VCD's.
If you want to change the codec virtualdub will do that. -

What it will NOT do is play files encoded with global motion compensation (GMC) or Quarter pixel (OPEL). Neither will most other players right now. Make sure you have the latest version of GSpot. There are icons at the top right (just underneath the line telling you if the codecs are installed) which light up if the file has 'QPEL' or 'GMC.' If those boxes are not lit up, your file should play. There are also icons indicating use of B-VOPs and N-VOPs. I think there may be some restrictions on the number of those, but so far every file I've played with B-VOP and N-VOP has played fine.
Just burn as plain data in Nero or any other burning application. It doesn't matter if you burn them on a DVD or a CD; they should play fine. But for DVD, make sure you do not burn as a DVD; just burn your discs as data on the DVD.
One more thing: My player came with the latest firmware. You may want to check for an **upgrade.**

Just use this http://johnnys.nailed.org/avicheck.zip
Anything with QPEL or GMC listed in the video section will NOT play on your DVP 642. Everything else has worked fine here so far.
