According to sapphire technology, their new "Theatrix" capture card will support 2-Channel Dolby Digital encoding (and MPEG-2 hardware encoding too)... seems VERY interesting.

Haven't standalone recorders already had DD/AC3 support in hardware for a while now?

ATI claims that the new chip can capture video and audio, so audio will not be captured by the audio card, but by the ATI card.
BTW, even if it is software encoded AC3... well, it doesn't matter, does it?
