  1. I did a search on this topic, but couldn't find what I'm looking for.

What is the "standard" for the first menu on a DVD? I have been asked at other forums about having longer than 30sec. looping background music. Does the DVD standard allow menus of indefinite lengths or is the menu area on the DVD defined as a specific size? If someone creates a menu with longer background music, will it still be 100% compatible?

I ask because supposedly MyDVD and DVDit allows longer menu music. ANyone know? Thanks

Your menu timeout is dependent on the authoring program you use in some cases.

I use TMPGEnc DVD Author and I've made menus that loop after 3-4 minutes...depending on the length of the music.

No matter...it should still be compatible.

  3. Thanks....

I even noticed that commercial DVDs usually loop at 30secs, too. I was wondering if that was a standard or something.

The more audio/video you put into your menus, the less space you have for movies. Second - 30 seconds is about the attention span of the average person nowa - oh look - a beetle.

I've made some simpsons DVDs up from caps that had the entire opening sequence as the motion menu - about 1 min 18 secs as I recall.
    If in doubt, Google it.
