I was using my Pioneer 107 with DVD Shrink and got an error message. I decided to reset the computer but afterwards the Pioneer was dead. I cannot find it in My Computer and it does not show up in Device Manager. I have checked that all leads are secure but it is just not working. There is a DVD disk inside but I cannot get it out. Can someone help?

I would open the case remove the drive. Reboot the pc. Then shut the PC off and reinstall the Burner. Also when you have the pioneer out of the case use a small paper clip to remove the dvd that is inside, you should have a small hole place the end of the paperclip into it and the drive will open up. Hope this helps....

I tried what you said but XP is not seeing it to install it. It is not listed in the bios. I have managed to get the disk out. It seems completely dead.

You might want to try a different IDE cable, a different IDE channel and a different power lead before you call the time of death. Seems like it's probably dead, but a few minutes of diagnostics could save some time and headache if it's not dead.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

Excuse my being a bit numb but I presume I just plug in another cable. How do I use another IDE channel?

Most computers have two IDE channels (plugs on the mainboard or expansion card) called the "Primary" and the "Secondary". The hard drive will most likely be plugged into one port and your optical drive(s) in the other. Either make the drive a slave and plug it into the same cable as the hard drive, or just swap the cables where they plug into the motherboard.

  7. When you decided to "reset" your computer, did you power it off properly through Windows or hard reset it?

I have a Sony Drive that came with the machine as well and I have tried swapping the cables. The Sony continues to function and the Pioneer continues to lie doggo

On my way to buy a new one as we speak (well, right after). Wonder whether I should upgrade the firmware on the next one. I upgraded to 1.13 on this one. It has had a pretty busy 6 months!!

Its usually best to upgrade firmware cause they include the newest media codes for better and faster burning speeds on new media, once in awhile firmwares can be glitchy.
