  1. I use Pioneer DVR -112D. I have tried AnyDVD, DVD Region Free, etc. But didn't work.
The default setting was 'Region 1', I wanted to be able to enjoy DVD from all region.
    I really need help...

you'll need to download from "THE DANGEROUS BROTHERS" website the hacked firmware to make your drive REGION FREE.

    http://tdb.rpc1.org/#DVR112D

If you want to enable bitsetting to dvdrom for single layer DVD+R media then you will have to crossflash your drive to the PIONEER 112L firmware which uses the Buffalo firmware. Do a search at the PIONEER FORUM at Cdfreaks.com.

is it safe to do that by myself?
    I mean, i'm not a technician.

and by the way, how do i know which firmware is currently installed on my drive?
(i'm sorry for that very basic question...)

    thanks, again....

download disc info or cd/dvd speed. those programs can tell you what firmware you have installed on your drive.

it's safe to crossflash a drive as long as you follow the instructions. i'm not a techie either, just a hobbyist when it comes to computers and dvd burners.

What are some observed changes/risks (positive or negative) to dvd writing quality if you hack the firmware to non manufacturer firmware?
I have seen some posts here and there that state that they get different burns after the hack, and it's not always a positive change...

I'm not just talking about SPEED here, but actual quality of the resulting burns (ie PI, PIE errors in scans of burned discs.). I worry that burn quality COULD decrease if I was to hack to a 3rd party firmware.

I'm running a 112D hacked to 112L to give bitsetting on DVD+R. No difference in burn quality on TY 8x DVD-R. I don't know about the quality on +R as the only time I use it is if I get a customer with a DVD player that won't play -R.

I've been using hacked firmwares from the time I began burning dvd media. There's NO DECREASE in quality that I've seen at all. I have over 25 dvd burners at the moment and I'd say 60% of them have hacked region free/firmware. I've never had a backup disc fail in reading in any of my standalone dvd players.

    Hacked, nah!
    Patched, yes.

And before you ask, yes, there is a difference between "hack" and "patch".
