Ok so I recently recorded this 2 hour program with my DVD recorder onto a DVD-Ram. I want to eventually burn this program onto a DVD-video but I don't want the commercials. I have the original DVD-RAM and transfered the mpeg-2 file onto my comp. I just want to filter out the commercials with as little encoding that I will need to do. The only way I can think of is to make an avi in virtual dub w/o the commercials and then reencode into a dvd mpeg-2 and then author but that seems like a lot of work. Is there any easier way for this that can preserve quality?

  2. Cuttermaran and MPEG2Schnitt can do that without re-encoding, and they are free. Cuts are made at I frames only, which should be sufficient for removing commercials. You also need to demux your .mpg into separate .m2v video + .ac3 audio files. VOBEdit and several other freeware programs can demux for you.

If you need frame accurate edits, look at Womble MPEG-VCR and MPEG Video Wizard. They don't re-encode, either.

  3. You can author your DVD-video with TMPGEnc DVD Author and it will allow you to cut out any bits you want, and there will be no re-encoding.

  5. After you select the .mpg you want to load into TMPGEnc DVD Author, the "Add Clip" box opens. There is a button near the top called "Chapter cut edit". Click on that and the editing window will appear. It's pretty easy to figure out from there.

  6. Use the "Edit" function for the particular track you want to edit:
