  1. I am having an amazing problem, am backing up my friends collection he has recorded using a LG dvd recorder in Canada.

It is almost like the dvd's were recorded in some strange Martian method, using Nero I get LBA errors, using img burn most will copy but when they do not I get a read error on far too many dics sfor it to be the media (!?), may be not.

The discs even seem to be jamming up my pc's sometimes.

    I have never experienced this.

Here is some techno info using various dvd software.

It might be the media, VicB.
This is one of those problems where I simply have to tell people to mail me the discs, and I put it into all of my drives. In cases like this, I can usually recover 50-75% of the media (for a price, of course), but the other 25-50% is toast.

Honestly, your LG drives are not very good -- not even close -- at reading discs. It could be as easy as trying another drive -- Pioneer is suggested.

  3. Thanks LS.

When you say LG not good at reading discs do you mean from the data I supplied or just in general, and is their reading suspect rather than their writing. as I have never had this problem in 4 years of using them until I started this project and imgburn is having success whereas Nero cannot read any.

And on one that neither imgburn or Nero would read, TMPG express read it fine and I was able to scroll through the whole recording with that software !

Some of the discs have surface scrtaches but pressed ones I've done read fine with worse marks.

It seems that the original dvd recorder has created some weird formatting, but like DVD-VR rather than dvd video?

    Appreciate it.

  4. In case anyone is interested !, I seem to have found the problem, I am using 4163B with H-22N on both of my PC's and it seems the 4163's are a bit long in the tooth, as if I use h-22N to read and 4163 to write I am getting much more success.
