i use Nero 6 Express...
in nero express 6, choose Videos then video cd.
add the avi file and click finished...nero 6 will reencode the avi file to vcd format (tmpgenc is a better encoder though)
then click Next, next, then click burn...hacking the Net using typewriter :D -
I did what you said and I get "Unknown error in the Video MPEG encoder"? and it was at 3% encoding video in Nero 6....thanks

Of course, you could always just buy the DVD
. I think I got mine on sale at Fry's for about $8, and you get some extra stuff with it.

That's always my philosophy. If you have the time to struggle with converting/authoring/burning something that's available commercially, then work the overtime at your job and buy it. You'll get better quality plus extras (including a nifty case and cover).

Once you have your "new" AVI, start TMPGEnc. Close the wizard if it opens. Load either the PAL or NTSC VCD/SVCD (whichever one you want to do) template and load your AVI. If you need to tweak some settings, load the unlock template and tweak away.
Click the start button and let TMPGEnc do its thing. Once finished, use Nero in Express mode. Follow the screens to do a VCD/SVCD and add the file that TMPGEnc created. You don't mention if you are using a newer or older version of Nero so it is hard to describe word for word the steps you need to take.
Again, All this to save $8 ??? I guess if it is a hobby, then all power to you.
You must be patient and willing to learn (and read) if you want to get anywhere in the video world.
See how you go.If in doubt, Google it. -
