    Hi,
I am very new to this hobby and have decided to attempt my first movie project by using Movie Maker that was included with my XP computer. I must have something simple because I will use this software maybe once a year at best. My needs are very basic-move my video from my camcorder to the pc, clip some unwanted footage and burn to a DVD that will play on a PC or TV. Seems that MM will meet my needs except for burning to a DVD. I am sure this can be done with additional software. If anyone has ever burned MM videos on to a DVD I would greatly appreciate some advice on what software to us (must be simple and very inexpensive) and the process you followed.

Thanks in advance for helping me out.

If your camcorder footage is miniDV (you didn't say), maintain the DV-AVI format all the way through the editing process. Never save your Movie Maker project as a WMV file. That would compress the crap out of your camcorder footage and soften the image. In Windows Movie Maker, you will want to select File > Save Movie File. When the Save Movie Wizard comes up, choose My Computer, then name the file and select the location. After hitting the Next button, a Movie Setting menu. Select "Other Settings," which will give you a list of selections. Pick DV-AVI (NTSC) as your setting.

Let it make the file, which might take up a bit of hard drive space. After that, you can drop the avi into DVD Flick, a very simple freeware DVD-making program available in the Tools section of this site. Once the DVD is completed to your satisfaction you can delete the large DV-AVI file.
