  1. I need help capturing a show… My home in Austin, Texas will be featured on Home & Garden Television (HGTV) in the Homes Across America, episode HAA-1008 show on Friday, May 21, 2004 at 11:30 AM ET/PT, 10:30 CT

    http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/shows_haa/episode/0,1806,HGTV_3851_24258,00.html

I assumed that Fry’s, CompUSA & BestBuy would have the ADVC-100 capture device that I want to purchased to capture the show… well, these stores in Austin DON’T carry Canopus products; and I don’t think that I may be able to get it before the airing of the show if I buy it online.

Would one of the ADVC-100 users be willing to capture the show for me? I am only interested in the segment of the show that features my home, which is at the very beginning and at the end of the 30 minute show (my segment will be on for about 7 to 8 minutes)… the other two homes I don’t care about.

If you could help me with this, could you send me an e-mail so we can discuss the details?

    Sincerely,
    Carlos Bernal

  3. If you have a vcr; record it on tape and convert it later.

  4. The reason I would like to capture the show is to be able to share it with family and friends outside the viewing area (outside the USA) by posting it on the website for the house. Eventually I would like to burn a DVD to store it permanently, perhaps after I buy the ADVC-100, and a DVD burner, etc.

  5. Have you giving any thoughts on getting something besides the ADVC-100? I get excellent results with my ATI Radeon 8500 AIW Card and the Hauppauge WinTV PVR 250 Card. What ever you get you don't have much time to set it up and get it running right. I still suggest recording it on VHS so you'll have time to get your capture device, set it up and learn how to use it.

I do not see a problem with sharing the show with family members, but posting the video on your "homes" website.... I'll go out on a limb and assume that HGTV and/or the producers of the show will be retaining the copyright, in which you might be violating if you post it for public viewing even if it is on a website....
I welcome comments I am totally off base here...

  7. I will NOT post any material on the web without the written consent of the producers of the show. The director and I talked about this a while back and he didn’t see a problem with me doing it, and I have received written e-mail authorization from them to publicize the show, etc.

In a situation like this is better not to do it unless it is very clear to everyone involved that it is OK. I build very unique homes that are usually published in magazines and TV shows. It would be stupid to jeopardize the relationship that I have built with the industry over many the years by trying something dumb.

I think that we all need to keep this issue in mind when we capture broadcast material.

Didn't mean to step on any toes... just trying to keep things on the up and up.. As I said in my reply - I would welcome comments if I was totally off base...
I do hope it works out for you

Why not just ask the producers of the show to send you a copy? Probably your best option, theyll be able to provide4 a high quality copy way beyond what you would be able to get off the TV. I wopuld think that since they put you through the trouble of invading your home they could at least provide you with a copy of the show.

  10. A tape will be arriving in the next few weeks from the producers. Having a film crew for a day was no trouble... actualy, after I relaxed it was a lot of fun... by the end of the day we were drinking beer and having a good time. If you guys would like to view/read about the house go to www.2004home.com
