Hi All
I am fairly new to copying DVD's etc. and someone suggested DVDShrink was all I really needed so I downloaded v3.17
All went well for the first few copies 3 or 4 done successfully and DVDShrink even burns the new copy
However ... thats when the errors started, once DVDShrink has opened a new disk thats when I get an Error message and DVDShrink goes to 'Not responding
I noticed from other forums that some other people had problems and thats when I downloaded DVDShrink v3.0beta5 and everything appears to be fine with this - I have to use Nero for the actual burn process
What I wanted to know is how I can avoid the errors on v3.17 as this version enables you to remove extras rather than changing them to 'Still pictures' to improve the overall quality?
Or is this a general error with v3.17 which needs to be resolved?
Any comments suggestions would be appreciated

Have you gone back to DL the newer version, .b5, I think? Update, so changelog should show that it fixed something or other.
Cheers,

I have got both v3.0b5 and v3.1.7 and its the later v3.1.7 that gives me errors
Is there a later version than v3.1.7 ? -
Well, I have 3.17b3, 4 and 5.
If you need 1 of them, not that I can say if it will help, let me know, I'll mail it to you.
I've had no problem with it and my 411 or 851, don't expect any with my 811.
Cheers,
George -
I am not sure what version of 3.1.7 i have but if you send me the latest one then I can try it
Thanks for your help)

I have just checked and I have v3.1.7.6
I have been reading up on stuff and there have been suggestions that you have to view the clip in something like media player before hand rather than inserting a new DVD and going straight into Shrink and copying it
I have tried it with a few DVD's and for some unknown reason viewing it first (even for 5 seconds) seems to work and i have used 3.1.7 since
This solves my question (bar a bug somewhere but there is a work around) but after all my reading on DVDShrink I get the impression that v3.0beta5 is far better picture quality than v3.1.7 but I prefer 3.1.7 as you can cut all extras and just do the movie (hence better quality)
Any comments ? -

try ripping in FILE MODE with DVD DECRYPTER then use DVD SHRINK version 3.0 beta5 to compress
-
Use the version of DVDshrinkBeta 5 full disk no compression. Then feed the results of that into the later version of DVDshrink and you will not get that error.
Another great burning program is IMG TOOL BURN to which is freeware.

you download according the version of nero burn that you have. the download is in the middle of the website. -
Obiously he / she had made modifications to his system since the good burns. Either installed some new programs/devices and (or) did a Windows upgrade, etc.
Only if he / she would tell all the stories, then you (we) could help determine the cause(s). Don't just look at DVDShrink. This is troubleshooting 101. -

Budz method will work fine too. But in my case DVD shrink usually works all by itself and I just use Beta 5 IF I get an error. -

You can cut all the extras and do just the movie in 3.0beta5 too. -

You were wrong in your statement that they OBVIOUSLY changed something on their system. This is not necessarily the case. I know my post could have been more tactful. That's why I added the smiley face this time.
(I'm not sure why you quoted Budz when I am the one who said you were wrong. ) -

Such a simple thing and you "experts" could not understand and started swearing.

toronto098 don't PRIVATE MESSAGE me!
take it up with me openly in the forum. As I've said if you have nothing constructive to say with regard to Up4it's questions then I suggest you keep your trap shut.

Anyway ... I think I have learnt roughly what I needed that this is a known error and I have to watch a DVD in say Media player even for 5 seconds and then if there are errors on v3.1.7 then just try v3.0beta5
No I had not made any modifications to my system, so whoever said it was obvious I had, perhaps needs to have a rethink
Thankyou to those of you with the helpful comments - any unconstructive or rude comments please just keep them to yourselves
