  1. i have a dvd which contains 7.5 gb of videos which i want to back up. the problem is i can shrink to fit to a 4.7 but the quality really sucks. is there an alternative method to backing this up or is there a larger capacity single-sided dvd-r available?

The larger capacity, single-sided DVDs are called "dual layer" DVDs, and burners that support that format are not out yet (that I've heard of)....

So, to answer your question, no, you're stuck with (single layer) 4.7GB for now....

Yeah, but we'll see how good the compatibility is and how readily available the media becomes.

My money's not on either until at least Q4 of this year...

I use DVDShrink to backup all the time and I have never seen any quality loss. Try to take out all the extra languages and anything else that you won't notice being gone to reduce the amount of compression that you need.

I'm also trying out a few apps to backup dvd's but i couldn't find anything that would have no quality loos at all. but the quality stays reasonable if u remnove whatever u don't need... I still consider it better than backing up to a VHS

    good point.....

at 7.5G, shrinked down to 4.5, removing what you dont' need, the quality is perfect....

It's May! That comes directly after April, so where is it?
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?
