  1. OK....I don't have a firewire card. I really don't want to get one if it can be avoided, as I only need to capture one video to my computer, and then forever after that I won't need it.

I've heard of DV-to-USB (haha, preferably usb 1.1 )cable? So I can hook up the DV side to the camera and USB to computer and somehow capture that way. I read some posts about this dropping frames, but I dont really need lossless quality, as it will eventually be put on VHS anyway.

My problem: I did google searches, ebay searches, bestbuy.com, compusa.com, staples.com etc etc etc and I can't find one of these cables! Anyone know what they are called, or where I can find one?

Quicker = better, I need this very soon

you can get a firewire card for like 15$ (maybe less) -- going to be cheaper than a firewire to usb convertor (if one even exists)

Go to Pricewatch.com and check under video capture. There is a 4 port firewire card listed for $9 with free shipping.

There is definitely no such thing as a Fireware-to-USB cable. They are two completely different standards. It would require some active electronics to convert between the two.

You'll still need a cable, which will be more expensive than the card. Make sure you get the right cable. There are 6-6 pin, 6-4 pin and 4-4 pin.

  11. O_o o_O thanks guys....hehe. But I solved my problem. I found a friend who has a video capture card (although analog, since its going to end up on VHS in the end, it should be fine, right?)
