  1. Ave,

I have a .OGM Video File and i need to extract the audio from it as AC3.
I encoded the .OGM to .M2V using TMPGEnc Plus for my DVD Video. The .OGM contains .OGG (Ogg Vorbis) Audio.. and i need to extract and encode it into .AC3 so i can take it into my DVDMaestro for authoring.

I used to use FFMPEGUI for all my AC3 encodings, but that program does not support .OGM .. what can i use?

    Thanks,
    Mickey

  2. I have not tried it out but it sure looks like BeSweet will do the job for you. If not, convert to WAV then to AC3.

  3. Ave,

    I tried BeSweet.
It doesn't input a .ogm file, however, i still gave it manually and tried encoding it to AC3. But it gives "MAXFRAMESIZE not large enough" error.

Although i would prefer to know if there's a tool that does the encoding from OGM's OGG Audio to AC3... if i had to get it to Wav first, what tool should i use?

    Thanks.

    Open the OGM in VirtualDubMod.

    Click Streams->Stream list.

    Click Save WAV.

I personally don't need to convert to AC3 (PAL region) so I don't know what steps/software from then on. Someone else will have to help you with that if you still get stuck.

Converting to AC3 from Wav is not a problem for me.
My concern was that will there be quality loss if get from OGM to WAV and then WAV to AC3.. ? I would still prefer to get a direct OGM to AC3 solution if possible.. if all else fails, then i will have to get the WAV using VirtualDub.

    Thanks again.

  6. #1 you dont go from ogm to ace you go from ogg to ac3. OGM is an audio/video container.

#2 There is no quality loss when you go from ogg to wav
#3 going from ogg to ac3 or ogg>wav>ac3 will produce the exact same loss so dont worry about it.
#4 in my experience, it is better to save out your audio file as a 48000 hz wav, 16 bit stereo, before you do more conversions for it. Not that an ogg>ac3 wont work, its just that everything accepts wave, not everything accepts ogg, and av is no quality loss.

    Ave,

Thanks for that Info.. that was much needed information.
I guess i will probably have to go ogm>wav>ac3 because i'm not able to find any direct ogm>ac3 solution.

    Thanks again,
    Mickey

  8. Ave,

    I have a problem again.

I was able to use an OGGDemux program which could split the .OGM file into it's respective 3 parts..

    video.avi (Video File)
    audio.ogg (Audio File)
    subtitle.srt (Subtitle File)

Having the independent .OGG audio file.. is there a possibility to convert it directly into .AC3 Audio?
I don't know why but BeSweet keeps crashing when i try to use it ... is there something else that can help?

    Thanks,
    Mickey

Is there any specific reason why you must convert directly from OGG to AC3? Since you can convert the audio to WAV (lossless) and then to AC3 and this is a proven method of conversion, I don't see why you should give yourself the extra obstacle of OGG->AC3. Even with the added step involved to save as WAV, there is not even much of a hit on your time.

I notice in your Computer Details that your hard drive is listed as 20GB. I have a total of 320GB and even I tend to be a bit squeezed and have to juggle some files in order to cope. Are you low on hard drive space? In the realm of video editing, 20GB is not all that big. Is that the reason you can't use the intermediate save to WAV step (since WAV takes up an awful lot of space)?

    Ave,

I can't say that i have a very specific reason.. i think most of all it is just because i'm surprised that there is no tool out there for such a conversion/encoding. One usually finds a tool for most such needs.
Secondly, i think it would be just about saving time.
But anyhow, i will be going through ogg>wav>ac3 as there really is no alternate.

I actually have 100 GB HDD and not 20 GB, i think you misread my details. And no, HDD is not the problem, i have enough space for it.

    Thanks again..

Huh? It clearly states 20GB in hard drive space, both on mouseover and if Computer Details is clicked. Would you mind checking it?
