  1. hi,

this will probably have been asked loads of times and there is loads of different topics to choose from but it'll take me ages to find what I want. So i'm wondering if someone can help me out.

I have a few .avi files that are around 400mb-700mb and I am wanting to put them onto a 700mb cd so I can watch them on my dvd player. Can someone please tell me the programs that I need and tell me how to do it.

    all help is much appreciated.

    thanks,
    Jon Cooper

If your DVD Player will play VCD then you could make an XVCD . You can put a film of whatever length you want on one cd-r and play it on a dvd player as long as it will play xvcd.

You also might want to look into getting a DVD player that plays mpeg-4(Divx/Xvid). That way you won't have to do any re-encoding.

    Hi Jon,

I am having the same issue as you (avi to vcd/svcd, to play on my dvd player) So far I learned that you have to convert the avi to mpeg-1, then you can burn it to a blank cd-r disk with a cd-writer. This is now called a VCD.

I downloaded "Xvideo converter" free trial software to turn the avi to mpeg-1, and when all done, it did not play on my dvd player. Maybe some of this info. might be helpful to you.

If you figure out a solution please post it.

No it is'nt, and this may explain the problem you are having. Simply burning an mpeg1 (vcd compliant) to a CDR does not make it a VCD. It has to be authored to become a VCD. Se the authoring section.
