  1. I recently updated OSX to 10.3.4. In the process, I can no longer run an external DVD player. In trying to open DVD player, I get an initialization error - A valid DVD drive could not be found.

    How do I get the computer to recoginize the DVD burner?

    Mac OS 10.3.4, G4, external DVD La Cie.

    Thanks,

    Were you using something like patchburn before? I believe those patches don't survive some system updates. Try using this La Cie software first;
    http://www.lacie.com/download/drivers/LaCieProfile.dmg

    If that doesn't work we'll try something else.

    with OSX 3.3.3 (and possibly with 3.3.4) this happened to a lot of people. Try resetting the PRAM and if that doesn't work, open firmware and reset NVRAM and reset all.

    FYI Resetting the pram usually does the trick.

    But do ensure you have patch burn updated.
