Every time I start up, and try to load certain programs, undelete 2009,windows update, type in start restore this is the exact message i get "the specified procedure could not be found". Please help anyone. Every time i reboot, i need to hit task manager and end process to explorer.exe and then re enable it, then no problems.Alot of other programs when i click on it i get the message. Help please this is very annoying. I have Vista 64 with all updates. NOD32 3.0-no virus.

  2. Eliminate specific programs on startup until the error is eliminated.

Verify that all programs installed are Vista 64 compatible. This is a likely problem area.

Clarify that you are ending the process "explorer.exe"? This would indicate some sort of plug-in issue, like something non-standard that has added itself to the explorer menus or the desktop.

Clarify exactly where you are "typing in start restore" to get the error message? Why are you restoring, and using what program?

ok i did msconfig and eliminated everything, then of course it works, then i tried on startup one program at a time. No problems, then once all programs were back, i get same error when i reboot. I do ending process with explorer, now how would i find a plugin that added itself? Why i type start restore, just to see if everything worked, i just happened to pick on restore. I believe i'm going to reformat. I hate to do that, i do have everything backed up, it's just the time to do it. Thanks again for helping.

Just to clarify your process. You eliminated everything in msconfig and rebooted. Did you then startup each program, one at a time while already in Windows or did you re-add them one at a time in msconfig (rebooting each time)? You should be adding them one at a time and rebooting.

  5. 1. You eliminate everything in MSconfig.

    2. Reboot.

    3. Add one program.

    4. Reboot.

    5. Repeat #3 and #4 until it fails. Then stop, and more thoroughly investigate or permanently remove the last program added.

First would be to remove that last prog in MSconfig one more time and reboot to confirm functionality, then add it again to confirm it is causing the problem.

If you answer the questions asked clearly and carefully, the problem can be solved. It is difficult to make sense of your answers. In particular, your explanation of the "start restore" fails to clarify anything. I know of no place in either XP or Vista where this phrase would be manually typed, unless there was some custom batch file named being launched from the command line.

Yes I did all that, and still had the problem. I reformatted my PC. So far so good. Don't know why that happened.
