Why are you opening it in Vdub to begin with? Are you trying to make clips? In order to create a new avi with CBR mp3 audio, do this:

    1. Open your movie and go to the audio menu and select "Full Processing Mode", go to the file menu and select "Save WAV" and pick a new file name.

    2. Go to the video menu and select "Direct Stream Copy", go to the audio menu and select "Wav Audio" and use the wav file you previously created.

    3. Go to audio menu again and select "Compression", choose mp3(or mpeg layer-3) using a bitrate of 128kbps.

    4. Go to file and save as avi.

  3. well, the reason is, i converted the xvid to DVD .mpeg with tmpgenc, but after i played the freshly made .mpg file, there was no audio... i assume that tmpgenc can't open the .mp3 audio track????

...so i figured i would try converting to DVD mpg again, but this time, by frame-serving thru vdub to tmpgenc... then, hopefully, i'll get a nice dvd mpg with video and audio...

Since you say you are making a DVD mpeg, that changes things a little.
Instead of creating a new avi with CBR mp3 audio, take the wav file and use that as your audio source in TMPGEnc.

It's up to you. There are several ways to do it. I should also add that there's no guarantee your sync problem will be fixed. There's a pretty good chance it will though.
