  1. Well I finally have decided that three of these error messages on different MPEG files that I tried to burn as VCD, I need some help. I am new at this but an old Mac user (512) and have successfully burned close to 75 VCD's.

I have combined AVI files into one file and converted to MPG as well as having combined small MPG files into one large file without any problems.

I have three MPEG 1 files that have given me a headache, and in each case they were the second file after splitting a larger file into 2 chunks.

I get the following message from toast while it is encoding or just writing:
"Could not record the disk because there is a problem with the source material. Result code=-18774"

The MPEG I just tried played fine in QT 6.5 in OSX 2.8. QT info gives following :
    MPEG 1 Muxed 320 x 240 FPS 29.97 time 1:14

Any suggestions and help would be much appreciated

I'm interested in what you learn about this. I get this error message from Toast sometimes with MPEG2s created with PixeDV and my ADS box. I don't know of any way to repair the MPEG so that Toast will accept it.

Toast checks the MPEG while demuxing/muxing the audio file. It is finding a fault with the video portion. You can prove this by separating the video and audio and then have Toast just encode the .m2v file. Same error. Same place.

I did find one workaround. I opened the .m2v in QuickTime Pro, converted the .mp2 audio to WAV with MPEG2 Tools, opened the WAV audio in QuickTime Pro and copied it onto the video file, and saved the combine file as a hinted movie. Next I dragged the .mov file into the Toast video window and chose Save as Disc Image. The encoding took much longer but went all the way through.

  3. The solution was on my HD all along. Just needed to make heads or tails out of the confusing info on ffmpeg 0.09a and the problem was solved .

The work a round is to drop the MPG file on ffmpeg set up the Video panel with your time, size, etc. Then in the tools set left side to author to VCD ( bin cue ) and than click encode.

I believe that the error toast gives is due to the fact that the file was not properly encoded.

  4. I have posted to one of my web sites an outline of what I did to get around my problem with Toast. Go to http://www.rsb-video-sales.com/ffmpeg.html

It is an outline of the steps I used in ffmpeg to encode a MPG file that was not properly encoded and author a VCD in bin/cue which I then burned with Toast. Still learning how to use this program!
