    Hi all

I have been burning .cue files on CDs with Toast titanium 7 for a while.

I have recently started getting the following error message every time

    The drive reported an error
    SenseKey = MEDIUM ERROR
    Sense Code = 0x0C
    WRITE ERROR

And the CD fails to finish. I have successfully burnt an album with I tunes on the same box of CDs.

I have an imac G5 with OSX 10.3.9
    1Gig ram

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Either bad media or you're burning too fast (for the read-speed of the source or the write speed of the media).

    what brand of media?
I get this error a lot with the Aptiva Brand of CD-Rs
( the fruit colored ones) Office Depot sells in 25 packs
    for like $5.

Ituens will burn suceessfully, but Toast will produce the error
as mentioned. I trusted Toast more so than iTunes,
and Changed media brands to Verbatim 52x CD-Roms I
burn at 24x. Never got the error since doing so.

Apple recommends Verbatim. Since I switched to Verbatim, 99% of my disc burning troubles have vanished.

These were cheap discs. I dropped the write speed down to x2 and it burnt the disc but then threw up the following message:

    The drive reported an error:
    Sense Key = MEDIUM ERROR
    Sense Code = 0 x 72
    SESSION FIXATION ERROR

    Followed by:

Lead in or lead out failed to be written

Guess I need to buy some discs?

    yup.
means that as it got prepared to close the disc,
it couldn't calibrate the laser properly to the media to do so.
No lead out, means that the disc will probably not mount,
or will be a problematic mount in anything you put it in.

This HP page lists all the errors by code:

A write error without recovery is probably burning too fast, but how fragmented the files are and how busy the machine is will also be a factor. iTunes may be more cautious or have a higher 'nice' (process priority) than Toast and therefore be able to recover better.

You might consider cleaning up your hd and closing unneeded programs during a burn.

Cleaning up your HD I'm always in agreeance with,
but getting better media and clearing up the problem once
and for all, I'm moreso for overall.

Bettter media, equals less having to throttle speeds
in either Toast or iTunes, and more successful burns.
