  1. Hi everyone,

Usually when I have a few .avi files I encode them with TMPGenc Xpress into .mpg files, and then use TMPGenc DVD Author to put then all on a DVD. I burn them with Nero Burning Rom, and incase I get an error message, which up until happend very rear, I use DVD Shrink and make the DVD files into an .nrg file and then burn the image file with DVD Decrypter.
Recently I have been experiencing a very strange problem. I cannot burn the DVD files with Nero Burning Rom, neither can I burn the .nrg file with DVD Decrypter.
The error message that I get with Nero is the following:
    Burn process failed at 2.4x(3,312kb/s)
The error message that I get with DVD Decrypter is the following:
    I/O Error
    Device: [1:0:0] Sony DVD RW DW-U50A 1.5b (E (ATA)
    ScsiStatus: 0x02
    CDB: 2A 00 00 00 08 C0 00 00 20 00
    Interpretation: Write (10) - Sector: 2240-2271
    Sense Area: 70 00 05 00 00 00 12 00 00 00 00 21 02 00 C0 00 02 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
    Interpretation: Invalid Address for write

I have tried all kinds of different avi, mpg, DVD and nrg files, so it is not that I am getting this errors from the same file, but from different ones.

Can anyone please advise me on what to do?

Thanks, any help is really appreciated!

I've had the Invalid Address for Write error message with a batch of dodgy discs. Try a different batch or make.

The discs I was trying to burn were faulty. Try burning to a disc from a different batch or manufacturer. The ones I had the problem with were some Ritek G04 discs which I had been using for a long time with no problems. Around the time I started to get these errors, a number of other people reported problems with Ritek G04 discs. Changing to a different make cured the error.

The disks that I am using are GIGATAIN DVD+R and have burn more than a 100 DVDs, never had a problem. I have another make that I will try with and let you know.
    Thanks!

I agree it can be the media. When I started having burning & verification failures, it always stopped when I switched media, and it always happened on media that had worked fine before. I have a cake of Ritek -R where some work perfectly, some burn with errors, and others won't finalize after burning.

  10. YES, it worked! It burned perfect with Nero using DVDs from the make RIDATA DVD+R. The question is... is this a one time thing... a coinsidence... As I said with the make GIGATAIN DVD+R I have burned over a 100 DVDs, so how come now suddenly I get these errors... It's just strange that these make of DVDs worked for a long time and now suddenly they don't...
By the way, in the mean time someone from another forum recommended me to use DVD Santa, so I downloaded it and the burning process was 100%, but it didn't play in my DVD player, just made some strange noise and nothing happend (I used the DVDs that I have always been using GIGATAIN DVD+R)... so after all it is the DVD manufacturer.
Thank you all for the help!

  11. Hi eveyone,
I am facing another challenge with burning DVDs... I cannot burn on the second laptop that I have. The thing is that I bought this second laptop in the US and I am based in Europe. Ever since I got it I have never been able to burn a DVD from a VIDEO_TS folder, I always had to convert it into an image file with DVD Schrink and then was able to burn it with DVD Decrypter.
Now, as this laptop is running out of space I wanted to just burn movie files but as data, just to save space, and just to be able to watch the files on the laptop... just simple and easy to also save time with encoding, making the DVDs and then converting then into image files.
I tried a few times to burn the data files on a DVD with Nero but every time just at 99% it fails. When I check the disks, they are 100% used but I cannot see any content on them. I thought that it might be the same problem with the DVD manufacturer, so I tried different kind of brands. I also tried moving the files into my other laptop, managed to burn a data DVD, but then I cannot see the files ones I insert the DVD into the second laptop. So basically I am stuck with no space on the seond laptop and have no way of getting the files off and burning then on a data DVD. I believe that to be able to view the data files on that second laptop, I do have to burn then on it, but I cannot... I really think that there is something wrong with the CD-RW/DVD-ROM / burner. And also I believe that it experiences a conflict, as it is a US laptop funcioning in Europe, may be...
Just in case here are the specs from the second laptop:

You won't be able to burn DVDs on the drive in that laptop because it isn't a DVD burner. Look at what it says, it's a combo drive, a CD rewriter that can also function as a DVD-ROM (reader). It can't burn DVD disks only read them. The only way you can get the files off it would be to burn them to lots of CDs.

  18. Just wanted to let you know that I do have an external hard drive on which I copied all the files that I wanted to burn on a data DVD. That is how I managed to burn a data DVD from my laptop. But as I said the second laptop does not read the data DVD. And I do want to eventually take all the files off the external hard drive.
    Thanks for all your help!

I don't care what you think you have or what the marketing blurb says you should have, you haven't. You have a Combo drive, a DVD reader and CD rewriter. It's in the spec that you posted. Have you taken that from the manufacturers documentation or has it been detected by Windows System Information? I suppose it's always possible that Windows is detecting it as a combo drive even though it is actually a DVD rewriter. What make/model drive does Device Manager list it as?
    Quote Quote
  20. The specs that I posted before are a copy of the sony vaio website. However on the manufacturer's documentation it says "Optical drive: DVD+/-RW drive", and the Device Manager says that it is a "Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-K12D".
I am just confused as I still wonder how come I can burn image files...
    Thanks

It looks like the Sony website is out of date then. The Pioneer DVR-K12D is definitely a DVD rewriter. Have you tried loading a blank DVD in the drive and simply dragging and dropping the files from the hard drive from within Windows Explorer?
    Quote Quote
  22. Well, at least we know now for sure that it is a DVD rewriter, thanks!
I just tried loading a blank DVD in the drive and dragging and dropping the files from the hard drive from within Windows Explorer and it gives me the following error:
    Problem Copying
Windows encountered a problem when trying to copy this file. What to you want Windows to do?
    Retry / Skip / Cancel

I tried this a few time with various files and the error remains the same.

  23. In the mean time I did some research and here are a few links to other forums with posts from people who experience similar problems with their Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-K12D:

    http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=38999

What I could make out of these forums is that it seems that its either the driver or the program that they are using for burning.

I am getting another burning program at the moment and also trying to find where I can download the driver so that I can unstall it and reinstall it.

  25. Can anyone please recommend me a program for burning data DVDs as well as DVD video, expect Nero? I seem to be finding ones that only burn DVD video.

  26. The next update is that I can't even burn image files anymore. When I try burning an image file with DVD Decryter, it stays for hours and hours on 0% and nothing happends. When I try to stop the burning process, the program does not respond, so I have to end the program through CTRL+ALT+DEL.
    Can anyone help please?

You shouldn't need a driver as the drive should be detected correctly and an XP driver installed. The one for the SK12D won't be right as that is the same drive as yours but fitted in an external housing. It sounds to me like you either have a serious configuration problem or the drive itself is faulty. The only suggestions I can make are that you do either a complete re-install or a restore (presumably you have installation/restore disks that came with the laptop). If that doesn't work, it sounds like you have a faulty drive. As the laptop is a current model, I would think it is still under warranty. Contact Sony and get them to sort it out. You shouldn't have any problems with it being a US spec machine but you are in Europe (you don't say where) as the Sony warranty is worldwide.

I have a problem whenever i try to burn DVD's. My Nero software goes through 30% of the process (very slowly) then it suddenly stops and it used to say low virtual memory, later it started saying your VGA is not supported. SO i decided to install Roxio Media Manager 9 and with that before i even open the DVD buring software it scans my video card and it says error: VGA not recognized/not supported. What should i do???
