I have learned that I need to buy a firewire card (with input port) and a firewire cable to connect a digital camcorder to my PC and get the best quality capture. Is this the right thing at the link below? Will this work? Decent deal? http://www.pagecomputers.com/cgi-bin/page/S0771969.html
    Thanks very much!

    Hi heyjjjaded,

Yep, looks like what you're after. About the right price too.

Disclaimer: I don't know the manufacturer nor the vendor, and can't guarantee that it'll work etc. blah blah you get the idea. In my opinion, it sounds right, not a recommendation.

    No problem.

It looks like you also get Ulead trial - Check that out in the "Tools" section to see if it's half-decent. I've never used it...

If it's an "all-in-one" (i.e. capture/edit/encode/author/write to disc) package then it'll be OK for starters but I'd recommend looking into how to do each step separately with the best tools for the job.

    Good luck...

I think you can find the fireware card and cable cheaper; here for example:

    http://www.newegg.com/app/Viewproduct.asp?DEPA=1&order=PRICE&submit=list&catalog=1&des...chFor=firewire

Make sure you determine what number of pins for your cable. Typically, camcorders have 4 pins and the fireware PCI computer card has 6 pins. As you can see from the link above 4 pin to 6 pin cables can be had for as cheap as $3.

Here is a list of the cards some as cheap as $10:
