Using the newest version of VirtualDub, 1.5.10, I tried to open an .mpg file to convert it to a DIVX .AVI. I got the error message "no video frames found in .MPEG file". Strange message. A completely normal .mpg file, plays fine in media players.
Out of curiosity, I tried to open other .MPG files, from various sources. I got that same error message each time!!
What's going on? Why won't VDub open an MPG file?
Thank you in advance for your response.![]()

I didn't say it was a Virtual Dub mod VD version. I don't know what that is. It was the latest version of Virtualdub. It is supposed to open MPEGs, but I get that error message every time.Originally Posted by Tommyknocker

Try a version that says it is a Virtual Dub mod. My Virtual Dub mod opens MPEG files. Has the version you have ever opened them? If it has opened them for you in the past, it may need reloading.

OK, I'm currently downloading Virtualdubmod, to see if it works better, although the plain version says it will open MPEGs. I don't see any that say "VD Version". What did you mean by that?Originally Posted by Tommyknocker
Any disadvantage of the "Mod" version over the plain "VIrtual Dub"? (If the modifications are all improvements, I wonder why they are not incorporated into the regular version updates?) -
VD stands for virtual dub. the regular virtual dub version only opens mpeg 1 files, not mpeg 2 files. the mod opens mpeg2, and the reason the regular version does not is because mpeg2 is a copyrighted format and usually you would need to pay for this kind of thing.

Yes, I see that VD stands for VirtualDub, but I didn't see any of the Virtualdubmod programs listed as "VD Version". That titling would be rather redundant anyhow, since we already know it is a modified version of Virtual Dub.Originally Posted by xsbs52x
I had the same problem with several MPEGs, and I'm not at all sure that they were all MPEG-2 format.
I'll try the mod version, and see if that works better. I see there is one titled Virtualdubmod-Mpeg-2, and there is a more generalized vdubmod that is supposed to include the mpeg2 and other modifications. Does the one with various mods have the most up-to-date version of the mpeg2 version? Are they all based on the most current vdub? Do some of these modified versions have other problems, that don't exist in the original program? -
I have version 1.4.13. It does not say anything but Virtual Dub. However, it does open MPEG-2 files.
