  1. I have a DivX movie that is 640 x 272 with 25fps, converted it to an mpeg of the same resolution, and tried to burn it as a VCD with Nero. Nero complained about it not being compatible for a VCD, but i went ahead and burned it any way. When i played it in my DVD player, there was no picture, just a garbled mess. How can i burn a compatible VCD and still have it be 640 x 272???

  2. VCD is 352x240 (NTSC) or 352x288 (PAL) - if you want to have a VCD Nero will like it has to be in that resolution. You could try to convert to SVCD - 480x480 NTSC, 480x576 PAL.
See the CONVERT section for more help.

Your DivX 640x272 seems to be a 1:2,35 widescreen movie without borders.
To make it SVCD compliant and playable on a 4:3 TV, you have to resize, for example with Avisynth.
    AviSource("C:\.......\.....avi")
    BicubicResize(480,320)
    AddBorders(0,128,0,128)
