I have a problem with my backup DVD's. I am using DVD shrink 3.1 to rip and compress from a DVD-9 to a DVD-5. I use Nero 6 to burn as a DVD-video. I also label them afterwards. Now the problem... my DVD backups start to become jerky and sometimes skips during the film. I have noticed that the jerkiness and skipping starts towards the end of the film. I would say starting at the half-way mark and becoming more frequent towards the end. Now I have read that putting labels on a DVD can cause this problem. I'm not sure, but I would like to know what the problem may be, because DVD+R become costly after a while of burning and reburning.
Can anyone help me with this problem? Suggestion would be great, Thanks!
Also, are DVD Laser cleaners worth anything? Could a DVD laser cleaner fix this problem?

I was getting bad lockups and bad pixelation
. I would burn a dvd and it would work good for one play. Then I would put a stick on label on it and it would play like junk. Well after reading many post here and tring many different thing I was up late one night
and took off a label off one and it played perfect. So try that.

Do the backups play OK without a label ? If No then it sounds like a Media problem try either lowering the burning speed or a diffrent brand of disks.
Which brand do you use ?Not bothered by small problems...

test by using media that is made by the manf of the writer you have cause then you know they are compatible. Sounds more like youre using cheap media which isn't very consistent.

1) Try without labeling
2) If that doesn't fix it, try better media. Ritek, Maxell, TDK are all good.
I realise the folks who have already answered mentioned both of these, but perhaps if u see a slew of us all saying the same thing, you'll try both.
Only thing is...I don't agree with the suggestion by handyguy. It's not a compatability issue, so I would not recommend using the burner brand name media unless it's Phillips. Otherwise...stick with media that is known to be good stuff. I have an HP burner...but I sure wouldn't buy HP media.
