I have all three of the Pirates of the Caribean BD discs and all three of them either skip and/or playback jerky on my 40GB PS3. Interestingly enough the ripped playback from my server the video is silky smooth (I cannot seem to get the center channel audio to work but that is another issue).
Incidentally, when ripping with AnyDVD all three of the discs experienced read errors multiple times before I could get them ripped in my LG drive. None of the discs have scratches or smudges on them.

Do you have the latest firmware installed?

you mention the rips from your server play fine, but then attempting to rip them from your LG drive gives errors....how did you rip them the first time?
Do you have other BR movies on disc that play fine in the PS3 and rip fine with the LG drive?
Is your PS3 in a well ventilated area? -
Yep, Spiderman played fine. I used AnyDVD-HD to rip. I took mulitple tries with the first two Pirates movies to rip without read errors. The third I never could get it to rip without errors.
Also ripped Dark Knight, Spiderman, Enchanted, and Over California (demo disc) without problems.
PS3 is in very well ventilated area and just upgraded FW last night. Haven't gone back to check the discs again.
