Well, I don't know why anybody would backup Pirates either. It's not hard to find.

On the other hand, I backed up my Rhino TRANSFORMERS G1 releases. Why? Because they are out of print and hard as hell to find. More will not be made. And when you do find some, they are 2-3x the original cost from 5 years ago. Ridiculous. So I have a backup copy, should I need one.

Another reason is a DVD I bought plays like crap. Yes, the original disc plays with problems. I made a copy of it, and the copy plays fine. The original disc has issues. It's also a rare disc, hard to find, so it's not a matter of getting a new one. There really is not a new one to be had.

Outside of the USA (R2 and R4, for example), discs are produced in far less numbers, so therdiscs are more scarce. If yours is damaged or lost, you'd be screwed. DVDs are not a rugged format, they can be damaged easily, especially by kids or those who don't know any better.

I'd copy my car, if I could. I'd make a copy of anything, for backup purposes, if the tech allowed. I'm not asking for freebies, I'm watching my own ass. Self-sufficient insurance.

    Just a few valid reasons.

Basically for the same reason's you were given here when you asked basically the same question

    https://forum.videohelp.com/topic331044.html

But just to add another reason, i have a lot of import dvd's that are no longer in production, keep the backup's in my rack in my living room, keep the original's put away in a bedroom closet, if me or anyone else accidentally scratches/breaks/WE, i can make a new backup instead of worrying of where the hell i'm gonna find a replacement of an overseas disc that is no longer produced for retail sale.
