New to this VCD making and just want to know if it's better to use DVD2AVI and encode using TMPGEnc OR Flask and encode with the Panasonic MPEG Plug-in?

Right now I'm using Flask/Pana combo cuz I don't feel like going the extra step with the AVIs. But if I'll get better results using DVD2AVI and TMPGEnc, I'd use that.

Or is it all just a matter of preference. I'm sure both ways do a good job.

    Thanks

Yes, it is just a matter of preference. But using dvd2avi and TMPG there is no extra step with a temporary .avi.

  3. to avoid another "quality" argument/discussion...just do it both ways, experiment a lot, take time find what is right for you, only you know whats good to you.

  4. There is actually little difference in quality between Flask and DVD2AVI themselves (with the appropriate settings). Do a short clip to uncompressed AVI to convince yourself.

The main reason to use one over the other are the features in the proggies and speed. DVD2AVI path is definitely faster.

FlaskMPEG is slower, but there are never A/V sync problems, subtitling (hard-encoded) is foolproof and no frameserving is required if you use the Panasonic MPEG plug-in (i.e., it is convenient).

If you want to use TMPGEnc though, DVD2AVI is a better option.

    Regards.
