  1. Ok, here's the deal. I have an Apex 1110-W. It has played every SVCD, and VCD that I have burned onto CD-R. I wanted to combine them so i purchased SVCD2DVD. Wonderful utility for this type of operation. However, When i burn to DVD+R here is what I've noticed.

    1) Does not want to play on the Apex, get a No Disk Display. (Even though I have burned a backup of another DVD to DVD+R and it plays fine, is that different?)

    2) on the ps2, the menu displays, and i can only play the first track. if i try to play the second track i get audio only.

    3) on my friends house next door it plays fine, and on a newer model Apex it plays fine.

    4) Plays fine on the PC it's burned from...

My question would be 1) why does a DUP of a DVD work fine on DVD+R, but this method of combining VCD/SVCD does'nt? 2) Is it possibly some setting i'm missing when i do this? I have tried using nero, copytodvd, and tmpc DVD Author and none of these methods seems to work.

    Thanks for any info.

PS. My burner is a Lite-On DVD+RW LDW-401S (I know probably not the greatest, but in my budget at 100 bucks plus a $30 rebate It will burn CD-R, CD-RW, DVD+RW, and DVD+R

  4. Very simple not al players play dvd-svcd well cause it isn't a real DVD format.

What you can do is try upgrading you firmware of you dvd-player.

  5. I disagree, after doing some more research, and testing a few things.... From what I found: there are "Legal" formats for both MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 that will work on DVD.

To test this, I used Sonic. I know from what i've read people have said this re-encodes the video, however i was able to burn a perfect playable DVD using 4 vcd's for one, and 2 SVCD's with another. According to Sonic's Documentation it does'nt re-enode the video if it meets the following requirments for: MPEG-1 , NTSC Frame size = 352x240 and for MPEG-2, NTSC frame size of 720x480.

I tested this by using SVCD2DVD creating Elementry Streams and patching the 1st header... worked, of course the video for the SVCD that was at 480x640 looked a little to the left of the screen, but it worked.....

Now, my question is, if Sonic can create a DVD using the vcd's and svcd's why can't we. What is Sonic possibly adding to the burn that we might be missing?

    THanks for any insite.

  6. oops, meant the video for the SVCD was 480x480, when patched it was mostly on the left of the screen... also, i used the same media to burn to DVD+R and it worked in the Apex that displayed the NO Disk error when i let SVCD2DVD burn using copytodvd or when burned with Nero...

Which is a action of a player that doesn't completly understand dvd-svcd.

Why we can't do it, i think it is because you can create a dvd many ways and some ways work and some don't
