Well Im moving form the USA to Denmark where my wife is from. I know here in the USA we are on Region 1 for dvds. I have a ton of US dvds here and would really like to take some of them to Denmark if possible. I know all my dvds are formatted to region 1. Our dvd player there is a newer Sony unit (not sure the model #). But is it possible to play my region 1 dvds in the existing dvd player we have in Denmark now?

Also, I have my old PS2 that Ive owned since 2001. Id like to take it to Denamrk also. I know the power converter will work no problems. But will the PS2 be able to play on the Sony flat screen (1.5 years old) we have already in Denmark? Can I play my region 1 dvds from the USA on the PS2 without any issues and see them on the region 2 tv?

    Thanks for your help.

Do some reading on the differences between NTSC(America) and PAL(The rest of the world) video formats.
Region Codes have ZERO to do with video formats.

I have been searching this site and others. There jsut so much info out there about different products and programs and passwords etc. Very overwhelming.

I have read that alot of the european dvd players will run both Pal and NTSC. But our in the usa wot play Pal at all. I have tried that. lol. But Im not a big tech reader. I know alot about construction and building cars. Not so much about the technology of media.

So Play Station system have any type of security codes in them that stop usage in different countries?

    Thansk for your help...

American (NTSC) played anywhere else in the world....NO PROBLEM.
Anything from outside America played on American equipment.....BIG problem.
I'm not sure what you mean by "passwords"....but I'm almost 100% certain it also has ZERO to do with video formats or region codes.

You are going in the right direction(NTSC to a PAL land)....so I would not worry too much about it...

There are two hurdles you need to cross(for DVD playback).
    1) region code
    2) video format
European equipment can easily handle any video format.....all we need to worry about over here is region codes.

ok great. One of the things my wife wants for christmas is a set of DVDs from an american tv show. I wanted to get it here (USA) for her but didnt want to carry unusable things in my luggage on my flight next week. I have alot of move and the airline really like to get you for extra weight.

Any idea about the PS2? The power supply is different but my converter can cure that. Im assuming the system will hook up to the danish tv set no issues?

thanks again and have a nice evening.

You will have the SCART issue with European TV sets.

There are plenty of video adapters around as well but I don't own a PS2 so....someone else will need to chime in as well. I'd doubting that if you buy any new PS2 games in Europe that they will play in your PS2 because of the NTSC/PAL issue. That also applies to video games/consoles as well.

Note that Sony players of all types (BluRay, DVD, game consoles) are incredibly difficult to unlock. Most models cannot be unlocked. So region codes will likely be a problem.

Most Sony DVD players aren't multi-region by default, although you can buy 'modified' players quite easily. Several years ago I bought a multi-region Sony player direct from Amazon (UK) for around £50.

Your PS2 should be able to play games bought in the U.S. on your TV in Denmark, but I'm fairly sure it won't play new games bought in Denmark or non Region 1 DVDs.
