  1. Anyone have any idea how I can convert the digital audio out on this player to (split) to the 5 (5.1CH) inputs of a tuner? I have an Aiwa mini-system with 5.1ch and if I cant figure out a way to convert the SINGLE digital audio output of the dvd player to the 5 inputs of my stereo, I am really losing out on lots of quality sounds.

    ANYONE, ANYONE....

    Thx in advance.

i have a sony dolby digital decoder i could sell you. i have all the original packaging and everything.

    it features

onboard dolby digital decoder(not dts) w/ 5.1 channel outputs

    3 digital inputs

    ch1 : composite video in
    : rf-in
    : coax digital in

    ch2 : composite video in
    : optical digital audio in
    : coaxial digital audio in

ch3 : optical digital audio in
    : optical digital audio out
: no video in on ch3. this is for cd-r or minidisc players

analog video in: composite input with stereo rca audio inputs

the remote allows you to change levels and equalizer settings for all your speakers, as well as sound effects and whatnot. in fact, the deck itself does everything the remote does. i have used it with my dvd player and to accept the optical digital audio from my pc's soundcard.
    works wonderfully!

    are you interested?

i wouldn't mind getting rid of it. my receiver is a sony dolby-digital ready receiver with 5.1 ch inputs. i would like to sell both and get an allinone receiver.

  3. Umm, my original question pertained to HOW to convert a single digital out from my DVD player to my 5.1 ch inputs of my stereo. So, I already have a receiver with 5.1ch inputs, but don't know how to split/convert the signal.

    Thanks again

are you looking into constructing your own digital decoder? that is pretty complicated...involving not only decoding, but then actuating the analog signal with digital-analog converters.

    that's pretty difficult.

  5. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I wasnt under the impression that I would need a digital decoder. So, the digital audio output from my DVD player would plug into the decoder and then the decoder would have the 5.1ch outs that would go to my Stereo? correct?

Do you have all of the cables (the 5.1ch cables and the composite)

    What model is it?

    How much do you want?

im at work so i don't know the model number offhand.

however, yes, you are correct now.

i would be willing to part with it for $150.

however, let me add these few facts. this is probably more than you paid for your dvd player, and i know it sounds silly to pay more for the decoder than the dvd player itself.

a/v receivers that have the decoding capability built-in start around $200. i bought my receiver with the same inputs as yours for $230 2 years ago, then picked up this dolby-digital decoder for $230 when it was cheaper for me to do that rather than replace my receiver again.

i will post more info after i get home tonight if you are still interested.
