    1. Load the video into Virtual Dub.

    2. Move to video end (Cntl + Right)

    3. Select Go to (Cntl + G). Note the total frames, and divide this number by one half (let's call this value "450").

    4. Enter "450" in the "Jump to frane" box. Select OK.

    5. Press the Home key. This is your Mark in function.

    6. Press the Right Bracket key ("]"). The cursor goes to the end of the video.

    7. Press the End key. This is your Mark out function. The last half of the video is highlighted.

    8. Press the Delete key and the last half of your video disappears.

    9. Select this video's codec and save it as the first part of your video.

    10. Reload the original video. Press the Home key (Mark in).

    11. Select Cntl + G again. When the Go to box appears, enter "450" as the "Jump to frame number". The cursor moves to the middle of your video.

    12. Press the End key (Mark out). The first part of your video is highlighted.

    13. Press the Delete key. The first part of your video disappears.

    14. Select your codec again, and save as the second part of your video.

  3. The principle above can be used by any video editor software (Studio 8 for example).
    1) load your original avi (say video.avi)
    2) cut the 2-nd half, save as video1.avi
    3) load the original again video.avi
    4) cut the first half, save as video2.avi
When you save, make sure you select DV AVI format (assuming that's what you started with).

    @Tommyknocker

I have trouble with two things in your method.

    1. When you have the start and end points selected you need only to "save avi" to save out the highlighted part. No deleting is necessary.

    2. You should set the audio and video to "direct stream copy" in order to save in the original format without converting.

BTW, there's a guide in the Edit section.

Before you delete the source-avi, be sure that the audio is in sync in the new avi's. If they aren't ... check the source for badframes with Virtualdub MP3 Freeze and do a search on this site on how to use the program.

  9. That AVI splitter is great. Does anyone know "a way around' the 10 day trial? I only used it for a day because I forgot it was a trial version!

    THanks,
