  1. I have extracted an audio track from an Xvid. Converted the 5 channel ac3 to mp2. Now I want to silence a few words not suitable for my kids ears. Neither Cool Edit or AudaCity will handle the mp2. Does anyone know of an audio editor that will?

  2. Hey mb571,
You can try mp3directcut. http://www.rz.uni-frankfurt.de/~pesch/. It can deal with mp2.
Don't forget to download the mpglib.dll if you don't have an mp3 ACM (I'm not sure what that means but I needed it).
I think you can highlight sections of your track and turn the volume down. Maybe download the manual to make your life easier.
    Happy to be here.

  3. Well I can open and play it with mp3directcut, but I can't figure out how to silence a selected section. Any ideas?

  4. Make a selection of just the part you want silent. Then look in the lower left of the window for the Gain button. Press it and check the box to "lock sliders". Now just grab a slider and drag it down as far as it will go. Click OK. Save your edited mp2.

I haven't done this before so I'm not sure if it will work. Let me know if it does.
    Happy to be here.

  5. When I click the gain button, I get a "Not Possible" warning.

Take a step back and use BeSweet to convert the AC-3 to a 2 channel stereo WAV file instead of a MP2 file.

Now it will be very EASY using a variety of programd designed for editing WAV audio to silence the "offending" words.

When you are done save to a new WAV file then use BeSweet to convert this new edited WAV to MP2 if that is what your final format is to be.

  7. I'd agree that you should convert it to WAV and edit that. I've had more success with Headac3he but BeSweet is good as well.

  8. Normally I would extract the audio as a wav and then edit. But when converting from ac3 to wav, I have never achieved good audio sync when encoding in TMPGEnc. A while back someone said to convert from ac3 to mp2, and wala, perfect audio sync all the time. So this is why I am trying to edit mp2.

Mark that makes absolutely no sense what-so-ever. I have never ever heard of anyone having sync problems converting AC-3 to WAV. If it is an Xvide then you need to first EXTRACT the AC-3 from the Xvid then convert to a WAV file (as opposed to trying to extract it from the Xvid directly to a WAV file).

Anyways if you really do not want to try that then your next best alternative (although you will loose quality to an extent) would be to convert the MP2 you have now to a WAV for editing then back to MP2 or whatever you want for the final project.

  12. I am extracting the ac3 audio "direct stream" with virtual dub. Then converting with BeSweet to mp2. I have experienced audio sync problems first hand many times. This is why I stopped converting from ac3 to wav. Since I started converting to mp2, I have never had an audio sync problem.

Yeah, sorry about that. I was experimenting with an mp3 file and I was able to 'mute' a section without totally removing it. I guess that mp3directcut is better for simple edits like cutting a large file in two (say for two VCDs) but I must agree with everyone else. The best thing to do is to edit in WAV format. Never an issue. Always works.
