  1. Was reading around a bit, saw few votes for basic editing.

I am capturing straight to mpeg2. Sometimes I'd like to cut the last second off of the file. But - more importantly, I'd like to add a "title screen" (logo) at the beginning and end, or even a watermark on the bottom throughout the whole clip. This is for web stuff, so I'll be converting to wmv in the end (so the title screens and/or watermark only need to be on the finished product).

I saw TMPGEnc DVD Author mentioned a few times on these forums - is that what would be the general concensus for what I'm looking to do?

Any special reason why you're going straight to MPEG and not to AVI first? Is this going to be for a DVD?

From my experience AVI is easier to work with than MPEG. If I tried editing the MPEG I got awful A/V sync issues...and none when I edited an AVI. There are a ton of tools to edit an AVI...check the TOOLS section.

I would edit and add the logo in Video Studio 7, frameserve to TMPGEnc using the ulead server plugin, demuxing the frameserved video using ES[video + audio] mode, getting an m2v and an mp2 file. Then change the resultant mp2 file's extension to mpa. Load both files into IfoEdit, shove the resultant DVD files into Nero, and burn, baby, burn.
    Hello.

  4. My device captures straight to mpeg2, which is what I like since I will be keeping the mpg files and compiling a dvd. All the clips essentially have two purposes.

I don't really need to edit the mpgs I guess, perhaps just convert them to wmv's and edit them in the process
