Target - 20 TDK 4x plus or 2x minus $30 through Saturday. Not a bad price. On a spindle.

It's more of a decent price for the 4X +R @ 1.63 after tax than the 2X -R at that price. Does anyone know if the TDK -R media on the 20 pack spindle is Ritek G04 like the 5 packs of TDK -R that MicroCenter was selling last week? That might make this a little better deal

On a whim I picked up a 2-20 packs last night to see if it was the 4X and not the 2X ones. Pack 1 was 2x, Pack 2 was 4X.
Both are in identical packages. So pack 1 will be returned tomorrow.

TDK sure would help us out if they would at least change the packages a little between different suppliers 8)

seems odd to return 2x media because they were actually 2x.
Were both packs labelled made in taiwan?
Anyway, the CompUsa deal is still a better price right now. they had made in taiwan and made in japan spindles to choose from. -

not true, some of the worst DVD players are made in japan while some of the better ones are made in Taiwan or China, maybe thats why Sony, Toshiba and other Japan corps say right on it made in China, yeah try playing a SVCD or MP3 in japan made DVD player, not until finally this year, taken them dorks this long to figure out that we want them to play everything, last toshiba I bought plays anything and everything I put in it, says made in china on the back even though right above China it says "toshiba of Japan" LOL.
-
just because it plays more doesn't make it better quality. My 3 year old made in Japan Sony is a hell of a lot better than any made in china players i've seen. Unfortunately it doesn't play all the formats, but that was Sony's fault. Now my Sampo plays everything I love it, all regions, about anything I throw at it, and the Sampos were probably the best quality of the off brands that play all regions. But the Sampo audio and video quality is no where near that of the older Made in Japan Sony. I've had bad luck with anything made by Sony that's not made in Japan, their other stuff is usually junk and fails very quickly, while the Japan stuff seems great. That's why all their higher end stuff is still made in japan. I try and avoid anything made in China when possible, but it's not always possible anymore.

Lite-ons I believe are made in China and I take a Lite-on CD burner over any other.

compuball , Lobe was referrring to the 15 pack of 4x TDK spindle for $20.99, which computes to $7.00 per 5 discs. 15 discs=$21.00 compusa/20 discs=$28.00 compared to targets $29.99 for 20 discs. Compusa better by a bit.

I went through this at Microcenter last week.
Here's the deal. Get some that 'just came in for the sale'. They may be on a skid floor display. The ones on the shelves are older and original TDK 2x. It appears that newer TDK's are really Ritek G04's. I surmise TDK is keeping the 2x label so as not to deflate their 4x media pricing???To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan -
That sounds logical Gazorgan. I'm sure that TDK is getting a killer price from Ritek on the G04 media and they are still making a good profit without having to erode their 4X inventory already out on the shelves.
