I got a copy of Ulead Video Studio 6 SE DVD bundled with my video capture card, which is a Leadtek Winfast TV 2000XP Deluxe. I have used this card to capture some video using the MPEG2 Optimal Quality setting.
Now I want to cut out the few seconds at the end and beginning of each file so it starts clean to then burn to a DVD. I am using Video Studio 6 to do this, but when I'm finished I send the video to save as DVD format, then VS starts to encode the video. When I view the file later, some of the video skips. It wil go fine for a while then the video wil jump forward a few seconds, then back to the right place. The sound is unaffected the whole time.
Does anyone know whatis happenning or how to fix this?
I have also heard a few people mentin here that it is best to encode the file to the same size as the original file. The Winfast PVR software has saved it at 768x576, but video studio wants to save it as 720x576. I have tried editing a new template for these files but using MPEG, it wont let me select 768x576, and the User Defined section is grayed out. I can select this size if I want to use AVI though. Is this because I have a bundled version or just the MPEG settings?
Thanks for any help you can give me.

See if you can capture using VS 6 to project setting for a DVD.
Hello. -
I noticed that my capture card is not capturing properly. I'll need to check that out. The captured video appears to be less resolution and blocky looking.
I'm also trying VS6 on a P4 laptop to see if it will work on other computers. When I put it on there and try to cue up the start of the video the program locks up. Also if I press play it just skips straight to the end of the file. The frame advance works fine and if I try to play the preview, it plays fine too.

I tried using Womble MPEG2VCR to edit the files. Sucess! It used to take 1 hour to re-encode badly the 25mins in Video Studio, and it only took me 3mins to cut the same file with Womble.
But now I have to join the two files to make one file to burn onto the DVD. What is the best way to do that? Does Womble do the job or is there something better for seamlessly joining two MPEG2 files?Grenge

24 Bits, 704 x 480, 29.97 fps
Field Order B
(DVD-NTSC), 4 : 3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8800 kbps)
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
MPEG audio layer 2, 48 KHz, Stereo
So I carefully adjust my Ulead VideoStudio 7.01 project settings to *match* in every way.
As a result, there's no re-encoding when joining files.
