  1. I screwed up and didn't set the GOP right on my DVD encode. Is there a way to fix this without re-encoding?

I don't know anything about GOP, but ReStream has these GOP options:

I'd bet Your answer would be no.

    Read this: https://www.videohelp.com/glossary#GOP:%20Group%20Of%20Pictures

Also read about I, B, P Frames and Open GOP.

This stuff IS the encoding. Hard to change without re-encoding.

BTW: You didn't say how you screwed up. You can change the field order for example, on interlaced video.

Edit: Better to link than to quote
I mean it in the nicest way.

  5. The GOP was set to no limit or whatever the default is in TMPG instead of 18, and the output "interval of sequence header" was 0 instead of 1.

  6. You can't change either without a re-encode. This info may be helpful. The question now is do they matter?

Well there is a spec for DVD and if you are too far off, your player may complain. You can use bitrate viewer and maybe rempeg to see the GOP frame length.

and the output "interval of sequence header" was 0 instead of 1.
I'm not sure what zero would do. For VCD you could not set chapter points if this was the case. For DVD, I don't know.

PS: I am far from an expert. Read up and see what you think.

  7. Well I got those numbers from the default DVD template in TMPG and thier apparently not set right when you make a custom template.

I was trying to import the file into Tmpg DVD Author and it was complaining about the GOP headers and wouldn't open the file. That was my original problem.

I redid a small clip and Author opened it up fine with GOP set to 18. I guess I'll be re-ecoding, but that's ok I guess since my DVD burner won't be here until tommorow anyway.

    Good for you !

Too many people seem to post here and wait for the best answer. The only real way to know what works for you is to do it. I've been slowly learning the why, but the how and what truely come from test, trial, and error.
