  1. I hadan old Apex player that finally bit the dust, and I bought a new one.The problem is the old one played VCD this only plays SVCD,so I am currently reencoding the videos.

I am using TMPGEnc Plus to encode them, but the quality is poor, and dark, and the color seems not so good.I thought the quality should be somewhere approx. the same as the original file.Am I wrong on this?Do they lose quality going from MPEG1 to MPEG2?

    Thanx

Anytime you re-encode you are going to lose quality. Since you are increasing your resolution, you are going to lose quite a bit.

As for your colors, try enabling the "output YUV data as..." option on the Quantize Matrix tab. This should help some.
