I myself saw a few problems that are easy to overlook.
(compared with the origional series)
1.Sickbay looked to new along with the transporter beam
2.Klingons didn't have the ridges in the forhead until the Star Trek movies. So how did they have them in this when it came before.
3. captain Kirks Grandpa or something like that, was one of the engineers one the first voyage but was not shown.
But other thatn that it was very good and enjoyable and I look forward to next weeks.

ASk me in 2 years time when I watch it on BBC2 (UK) and I will offer my opinion....

shochan: Relax & enjoy the show. If you analyze all the episodes like you did the pilot, you will ruin it for yourself. Don't get me wrong, your observations are correct, but these types of mistakes are common in all of the Star Trek series. ...just relax & enjoy it.

well I thought it was presented well, and the way the plot was introduced for the series was very well done. I have to admit, even though I heavily criticized the prequel concept when I first became aware of it, the temporal cold war aspect has me way intrigued. enough to make up for the prequel bullshit? I guess we'll have to see

I must say that Sub Commander T'Pol has some seriously yummmy nipplage going on. Yummmy... Heh

Seiously though, I've got an answer on the Klingon thing... I once read in Star Trek: Worlds of the Federation, that the Klingons we remember from the original series were actually genetically altered to appear "more" human, and thus make infiltration into human society easier. Remember the dude from Trouble With Tribbles? He looked completey human, and only McCoy's tricorder scan revealed him to be Klingon. It can be argued that the Klingons will only "now" begin their experiements in genetic manipulation, and we will see more "humanized" Klingons in episodes to come...

Perhaps someday Vulcans will share the advanced science secret of silicone implants with humans.

Remember the Star Trek role-playing game? I remember back in the 80's the game explained that a small group of "Imperial Klingons" had been in power for a short time. These were the "human" Klingons.
I think the official/unofficial stance now is to ignore the original series Klingons and assume they were always alien looking. -
I agree with Marlowe. The original series is so full of errors. From the first movie things start to become right. There's an episode of the original series where the warp engine gets stuck and the enterprise keeps speeding up till a speed of Warp 24 !!!! Which is impossible since Warp 10 is the maximum warp-able speed, after that transwarp becomes active (Star Trek Voyager epsiode 132/2x15 - Threshold).

Loved it. Scott Bakula is absolutely perfect in the part. Uh, I sure do love that Sub Commander too!!! I would love to help her decontaminate!
Anya rules! -
I am with ember.
i am going to have to wait until it comes to TV in Australia. with Trek the way it is down here that may be 4-5 years.
you might thinki am exagerating but we are still in season 6 of DS9 and season 4 of Voyager. That is ofcourse if channel 9 ever gets there act together and shows an episode of each a week. (which they havent done in nearly 2 years now)
it is actually quicker to buy them here than watch them on TV. Any word when they hit Video/DVD/VCD? hehe

I don't like those Star trek clones...
Anything beyond the original series and the first 3 seasons of the STNG, is crap!
I prefer Babylon 5 or crusade... You learn something from Science Fiction.
What you learned with DS9 or Voyager? Expecially Voyager....
For those who want FX and action, look forward for B5: Legend of the Rangers. On SciFI soon.
About Enterpraise:
I saw it a bit, thanks to satellite feeds (I am in Europe). Ain't bad but ain't original! It is only for entertainment. Nothing new. Looks like a soap prequel... -
ahhhh the nipplage alone has me intrigue!!!....d@mn I didnt know the vulcan women were packin like that!!!...LOL...somewhat entertaining, cant help but feel like Im watching a flashback from a Next Gen episode or something...o well, like it was stated, cant judge just from pilot episode...at first, I thought that the lack of "cool & new" technology would leave me a little short, which I hope not, and I hope for good storylines to make up for it....I see a LOT of first contact type episodes on the way.

ASk me in 25 years time when I watch it on SVT (Sweden) and I will offer my opinion....

What would be the legality of making mpegs available to our non-USA brethren?

I have no idea what the legality is but I am sure it's going to be posted to USENET (probably already has been) - just get a good news host - I use http://www.newscene.com others use http://www.usenet.com or http://www.newsguy.com and on and on....
here are a few other
http://www.giganews.com/
http://www.supernews.com/
http://www.newsfeeds.com/
or search yahoo for Usenet Servers
then just look in alt.binaries.multimedia
I watched the entire season of Survivor UK and I live in the US ... a buddy of mine is watching the entire HBO Band Of Brothers and he lives in Sweeden (no HBO in Sweeden).

i didn't think i would like scott bakula because he reminds me of quantum leap all the time.. but i did like him.
shochan is quite right, especially how they were saying before hand about trying to make it look less technologically advanced. yeah right.. but what can they do.
overall i enjoyed it and was thoroughly impressed that it was widescreen. except for that really stupid song at the beginning. definitely toast that.
will be transferring it to vcd tonight.

Sefy - read all about it & get .MOV clips at http://www.startrek.com

If you recall the last episode of TNG, when Picard jumped into the future, they were doing speeds of warp 13. According to the TNG technical manual, the warp table was re-assigned between the original series and TNG, so warp 10 in the original series was something like warp 7 or so in TNG.
DS9 was a good show, better than Voyager.
The show is becoming available today in alt.binaries.startrek. Someone was posting it in VCD format, I think... -
Yeah, I've captured it. Can't wait to burn to cd. I think that so far,
the capture looks pretty good!I used my DC10+ card at 3000kbits
It took almost 16gigs, but that's ok with my 30gig.
I'm now in the painstaken process of encoding it with tmpgenc 12j.
I did manage to make several small sample clips of it, encluding
a taste of next weeks new episode.
As for me, I LOVED THE SHOW!!! ...And the new Enterprise NX-01 ship!!
...Oh, and lets not forget our Volcan, he,he... She's gorgious!!
I can't wait for more, and as far as Capturing it, I'll be doing it till the
end of time - I guess!! ...And I love it!
If anyone would like to look or are interested in a few sample clips,
let me know. I'm trying to find someone who will take my cd and post
the whole show, so that all those in Sweeden??? and Austrailia and any
other areas can see it for themselve. Well, we'll see!!
Anyways, see you's around here later. -
I saw some bits here and there, in between other things I was doing.
It seemed to have one basic problem that the original series had: the humans are WAY too emotional about everything. Crews for choice assignments (I assume this "Enterprise" would be a choice assignment) are selected based on their professionalism (as well as skills), and aren't going to act like a bunch of angry, horny teenagers.
They're sure not subtle about the sex-for-ratings thing. I haven't quite decided if that is a bad thing or not. -
My wife hated the theme song - lyrics and no symphonic intro like the other series'. And she thought the decontam tank was really cheesy.
-
The new star series? Well I didn't watch it yet, I taped it and hope to get to it this weekend. I did catch the opening credits and hated them..... I hope it got better as it went along. Well I shouldn't say I hated them but just the song.
Now about the klingons, I read someplace where a bunch of trekkes think that the there were actually two speices of klingons and that in the original seriers that other type took control for a while, until they were killed or something by the mean looking klingons. Besides why would they want to look human? I thought they liked being mean. -

If you look in the newsgroups - alt.binaries.vcd or alt.binaries.multimedia - someone is usually posting the more recent star treks. I'm sure Enterprise episodes will be posted (hope you have broadband!).
