Pioneer DVR220S disks not compatible with other players

I have been using a new Pioneer DVR220S (replaement for the 210). I discovered that dvd-r disks recorded on this will not play on any other unit by other manufacturers. I have tried different brands of dvd-r. I know the other units will play dvdr, as I can record them on my pc and they play.

Any suggestions? I have already returned the unit though. I guess I will try Panasonic next.

use TMPG or ulead you have to fix it on the PC Panasonic also has this small problem. Also you can use MPEG2VCR to edit.

I returned the Pioneer, which was really a nice machine.

I went to Circuit City and they had an open box Panasonic for $199! Got that. Got home, no power cord. Radioshack saved it there.

The Pioneer did DVD-RW, so I could record and then read into my PC with my Sony DRU500a, and did as you suggestion. But the Panasonic don't do RW, just DVD-RAM.

My brother has a Panasonic, and his disks work on my Dad's Panasonic DVD Player (player only).

Can you point out any links where I could learn about those programs you mentioned and the process to use them?

TMPG DVD author you have to make the DVD again with the MPEG2 file you dvd record made TMPG will give you back the MPEG2 file then use it to make a new DVD with menu's and so on Then burn it.

It turns out the open box Panasonic works great....it's dvd-r's play on my other units!!!!!!!!!!! Does not have the many options and ease of use the the Pioneer, but it's compatible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wish the Panasonic did DVD-RW instead of DVD-RAM. But I discovered, on my favorite computer hardware site, www.newegg.com, a DVD burner for my PC that does ALL formats, including DVD-RAM, for $73! Someday........

I have had no problems playing the DVD-R's from my 220 either. They even play fine on my panasonic A-115 that is 6 years old. Not even the dvd+R would work on that player but the DVD-R from the 220 plays just fine.

Sounds like I must have had a defective unit. Damn. I really liked it. But I think I will keep the Panasonic for now. All the features of the Pioneer, like screens, options and such were way nicer than the Panasonic.

Sorry Fredpb, not to rub it in, but...

I have never had a problem with any DVD-R or DVD-RW playing in any of my 4 different DVD players, all are different brands. As a matter of fact, my DVD-R's are totally no-label. Bought 100 of them in 2002 for 80 cents each.

I know this might be a stupid question, but did you FINALIZE the disc before trying to play it in other DVD Players? In your post you mention that the 220 is the replacement for the 210, but you never made clear if you actually owned the 210. If the Pioneer 220 is your first stand alone recorder it's not uncommon for you not to realize that the recorded disc has to be Finalized before it can be played back in a standard DVD player. The un-finalized disc will play fine in the Pioneer DVD Recorder though. I'm guessing that you probably know about Finalizing a disc since the disc's recorded on the Panasonic play fine.
