    Hello,

I have a question for you guys, maybe some of you can help me out:

I have a Xvid file 700MB 23,97 fps wich plays perfectly in VLC/Mediaplayer etc. The problem is that i can't get a smooth conversion to a Mpeg2 file wich i can use in my authoring software.

This is what i did:, extracted the audio track in Vdub, saved it as a WAV-file for use in TMPGEnc Plus 2.5, when ik start TMPGEnc is quit the wizard and load the NTSC-DVD video template and Unlock.mcf from the extras, in the settings window i change the framerate to 23,97 fps (30fps internally) and applied the 3:2 pulldown when playback, choose normal framerate motion, and choose VBR (CBR already tried), ffdshow has the highest priority in de VAPI pluging window.

Allright now...., the outcome is a perfectly playing MPEG2 file, but after 20 minutes the video becomes choppy and a glitch can bee seen every 5 seconds, for 2 seconds the frames become jumpy, and then return back to normal, how further in the movie, how more problems are encountered

Maybe somebody can help me out here because i have the feeling that i'm close to the solution (2 months of reading, trying have altready past)

Thanx a bunch in advance, hope to hear from one of you guys versy soon to solve this problem for good.

Have you tried checking the Xvid in Virtualdub for errors?

As for TMPGEnc I always use the WIZARD MODE because if you load a PROGRESSIVE (23.976fps) source it will automatically set up everything for you including 3:2 pulldown. Maybe you are selecting something incorrectly by doing it the manual way?

When playing back the MPEG file you created are you watching it on the computer? If so you should be using DVD software for playback such as WinDVD or PowerDVD etc. Do not use Windows Media Player. It could be that the media player you are using does not access the MPEG-2 hardware acceleration of your video card and after 30 minutes it gets "bogged" down and results in choppy playback. Most likely though this would only happen with a SLOW system or if multi-tasking while attempting to watch the MPEG file.

    FulciLives,

Maybe you can tell me how i load the progressive mode in combination
with the wizard ?, I used the wizard several times, using DVD-NTSC and applied the 3:2 pulldown when playback, i also selected the 3:2 pulldown in the other screen (where you also can choose for inverse telecine etc) that gave not the wanted results, framerate was worser, the way i described in my post gives me the best result so far.

By the way, i already burned several try-outs to DVD-RW and DVD-R and the choppy video wich can bee seen on my softwareplayer is exactly the same as on my TV-set.

Assuming the Xvid is PROGRESSIVE just load it as your VIDEO SOURCE in the WIZARD MODE. It will automatically select NON-INTERLACED and select the correct frame rate with 3:2 pulldown. You don't have to touch any of the options for any of that stuff. That is where you went wrong.

I Tried that already (beacuse that is the easiest way of doing it), and that gives me not satisfying results, i tried several settings still choppy video after half an hour so, the Xvid plays perfectly on itself, maybe i have to framserve it directly to TMPGEnc with Virtualdub, but i don't know how that works. If that doesn't work also, i'll give up and try another Xvid, and look if it gives me the same probs.

Thanx for your help anyway !!
